Gadaffi ordered Lockerbie bomb
Libya's former justice minister claims Colonel Gaddafi personally ordered the Lockerbie bombing which killed 270 people in 1988.
Swedish tabloid Expressen says Mustafa Abdel-Jalil, who has just resigned from his cabinet post in protest at the violent crackdown against anti-government demonstrations, told their correspondent in Libya: 'I have proof that Gaddafi gave the order about Lockerbie.' He told Expressen Gaddafi gave the order to Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, the only man convicted in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, which killed all 259 people on board and 11 on the ground. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...-minister.html It's the Daily Fail...or is just sour grapes from one of his ex-henchmen? |
Re: Gadaffi ordered Lockerbie bomb
Possibly, or else the people who know where all the bodies are buried finally feel able to speak out. Interesting times indeed ... unless you're one of the poor souls trapped inside Libya. :erm:

Re: Gadaffi ordered Lockerbie bomb
Well Gadaffi's days are numbered as a leader. So what country will take him?

Re: Gadaffi ordered Lockerbie bomb
I think we need to wait till the situation in lybia plays out before we go taking anyone's word on anything as right now there will be a lot of crocodile tears and political positioning going on in the event gaddaffi does go. Have to say i wouldn't be surprised if this was true we know he actively funded and equipped the ira so it isn't that big a stretch to see him ordering something so heinous.

Re: Gadaffi ordered Lockerbie bomb
Wise words Rizzy, although this particular revelation is nothing very astounding - I don't think the British and US governments ever doubted Gadaffi was ultimately responsible, but they seemed content to take what they could get (two secret service agents, one of whom is now proven to have been involved) rather than persisting with making Gadaffi and his whole country a pariah.
As and when he does fall from power though, London and Washington are going to have to join the queue if they want his head on a spike. I suspect there are rather a lot of Libyans who are quite keen to get hold of him first. |

Just veering off the point momentarily, part of the condition for releasing Megrahi was that Libya would finally hand over the coward who shot and killed young WPC Evonne Fletcher, but we are still waiting. As regards the men and women who are risking their lives trying to oust Gaddafi and bring about a more democratic Libya, they truly deserve our respect. This certainly isn't another Egypt or Tunisia where the people look towards the army for protection, great swathes of Gaddafi's henchmen have proved already they are not soldiers, merely paid thugs in a uniform...good luck to the brave people of Libya.:tu: |
