Obama's state visit to the UK

Quote:

Buckingham Palace has confirmed US President Barack Obama will come to the UK on a state visit in May.

It is the first state visit by a US president since that of President George W Bush and his wife, Laura, in 2003.

I won't be out there flag waving.

He'll have to forget it. we're in the middle of a recession crisis.
I'm happy if he wants to fund it himself, but we just can't afford the party at the moment.

Ker-ching!!

Plenty of O/T opportunities but hopefully Obama doesn't decide to have a quick bike ride like the Dubya did.

HE MAY be the most powerful man in the world, but proof has emerged that President George Bush cannot ride a bike, wave and speak at the same time.
Scotland on Sunday has obtained remarkable details of one of the most memorably bizarre episodes of the Bush presidency: the day he crashed into a Scottish police constable while cycling in the grounds of Gleneagles Hotel.
Although finding out he can't multi-task isn't that much of a revelation.

Well there's rather a lot of tension in parts of the Arab world right now so I dare say Obama might appreciate a bit of support from anywhere he can get it. Somehow, I doubt the French will fulfill that role.....

Probably a good tactic for the French to take. I remember all the mocking aimed at the French for refusing to support UN action on Iraq, wise decision in hindsight!

Besides Obama is unlikely to want to support any new wars, not only is it not exactly something that appeals to his ideology but they can't afford it. Also the republicans became suddenly quite opposed to 'Obama's War' in Afganistan a couple of years ago.

Yes, the French are renowned for being experts at keeping out of wars, including those on their own soil.... :D

That's alright, he is no fan of Dave, that's why it's a state visit presumably, he wants to spend time with the Queen rather than our lightweight, plastic political leader.

So here we are, Barrack Obama and David Cameron attending at a London inventor's function when they come across a stand exhibiting a plastic box bristling with coloured lights, to which a microphone is attached along with a connection to a printer. When asked what the box was for, the inventor replied "it is a time machine, capable of predicting events twenty years into the future".

Intrigued and a little sceptical, Barrack Obama says "could I have a go at asking a question"? to which the inventor replies "yes of course - ask your question using the microphone and the answer will appear as a print out".

With this Barrack Obama asks "what will America be like twenty years from now?" The machine's lights flash frantically for a few seconds and then the print out appears. Barrack Obama then reads it's contents out loud for all to hear. "America will be a very successful nation - there will be no racial hatred - all citizens will be much better off, there will be a total end to conflict and the economy will be booming and buoyant".

David Cameron quickly replies "I'll have some of that - let me ask the same question" So he does "what will Britain be like twenty years from now? Again the machine's lights flash frantically for a few seconds and then the print out appears. David Cameron quietly reads the script but is rendered speechless - dumbfounded and staring at the paper printout.

Obama asks "well David - what does it say"? to which Cameron replies -

Haven't a clue - it's in Arabic!

He's probably only coming over so he can re-affirm the US and Britain's "Special" relationship... watch out for the sweeping brush hanging out of David Cameron's rear end...

I reckon it will be the taxpayers paying for his fuel and food and lodgings etc too...

Where does it say that???????????????????????

Your link is about the wikileaks back in November, which were about comments made by Mervin King to a US ambassador, Nothing about any comments made by the US government.

Up to now I think Obama has been a disappointment.

It's by no means a certainty he'll get a second term, and if he doesn't get his health care bill through his presidency will have been pretty much a non-event.

I might be wrong but I'd guess it's an impression formed from the fact that Obama's been rather less then forthcoming with praise when it comes to the UK. Still, as soon as his new buddies, the French, don't dance to his tune the 'special relationship' with the UK will be a 'strong as ever' it was.

Anyway I have a feeling that, Barack Obama will be remembered as Barracked Obama.

The link also included

In 2008, Mr Obama was alleged after their first meeting to have dismissed then Opposition Mr Cameron as a “lightweight’’ – a report that sparked furious denials from both sides.

One journalist who was aware of the cables’ contents has predicted that they will cause “embarrassment for David Cameron, who was not very highly regarded by the Obama administration or by the US ambassador here’’.

"alleged" from the Express (and Mail) usually means "made up".

They're not D-Cam's biggest fans, as they think he is a bit soft on the working classes.....
