I have just got an email about increasing 20mb to 50mb plus hd sport and movies for an extra fiver a month. As a VIP customer I was thinking about doing it and thought I would have a look at the website. Under the VIP package it says a second V HD box, however when we got ours about 18 months ago it was just a standard box which has no hdmi which is c**p at best.

Just wondering if I called them what sort of deal I might get as I am out of contract, any ideas.

As no one else has answered you yet, I'll tell you what I've gleaned from other parts on the site - apparently you can swap for a V HD box, but you'll need to pay £49.95 to activate the HD on that box.

I have been pre registered for Tivo for a while now so might hang on for a bit.

If you are on VIP you don't pay the HD Activation,

So if you do have an SD additional box as part of VIP you can swap it for a V HD one with HD activated for just the delivery fee of £20

Thanks for the info. What would happen to the V+ box when I get tivo? Could I change the SD box over to my old HD+ box?

My apologies for the misinformation. In my reading on a thread in the TV section someone was complaining that they were on VIP and were being charged for the activation when they swapped their SD for an HD box and other staff said that was correct. (not a clue which thread it was as it was earlier in the week)

My second box on VIP50 is a V HD STB and hasn't been activated and I was also told to caugh up almost 50 quid to get HD so I said take a hike. Should I has this activated then at no extra cost?

well according to virgin last night when i rang them they said u get ur second box Hd activated is for free after that u pay 49.99 for any additional STB and that was retentions.and i'm a vip 50 customers so the site is not that accurate.

The site is accurate (I know it is as I got that put on there), the agent wasn't

If you want a 3rd or 4th box on the VIP account you do have to pay for it's installation at £40 a box (this has always been the case), however all HD activations are then covered.

well when i rang to order it as i had billing problem at the time for my 50mb net getting charged more than i should have been. the retention person on the phone gave me free install put i had to pay 49.99 for hd activation instead. which i was happy to pay. so if ur correct i shouldn't have been charged the 49 pound for hd activation.

Well I didn't know that always understood there was a £50 fee for activation. Think I will call and get the SD box swapped afterall we have a HD TV in bedroom, silly not to take advantage.

What happens to old SD Box?

You get a returns pack as part of the delivery to send the SD box back to VM

Already replied - for VIP don't know yet

If you aren't on VIP then you should be able to swap whatever box you want for TiVo

Spoke with VM this morning this not the case I would still need to pay the £49.95 activation fee, so won't be going ahead with a swap of my SD box for an HD activated one after all. :mad:

If you don't get anywhere with CSC then fill in the complaint form at www.virginmedia.com/contact They *should* be a little more switched on

If this is the case, who can I speak to to get this? I am on VIP50 and have been since the day it was launched, being on VIP20 before that since the day it was launched.

I have called twice and first time told it was £49 activate + £40 installation. I argued the case but got nowhere. Second time I called it was £40 installation with no activation charge. Again I argued but got nowhere.

Please help!

I'm on VIP20 and got the email regarding uprgading to 30mb or 50mb.

I upgraded to VIP50 online via the email and there are no extra charges according to the email and subsequent order confirmation.

Will taking this offer affect any toher forthcoming deals? I am on a vip mates rate deal at the moment.

Well I called them and was told because I was on a mates rates deal it wasnt applicble to me. If I wanted the upgrade it would take my monthly bill from £60 to over £90!
