Re: New Hub

Yes the new hub is a wifi enable router.. which means that you can not only connect the devices wirelessly but you also will have 4 ethernet ports if you want to connect the devices by ethernet cable

Re: New Hub

I would need a dongle connected to my P.C. to pick up the signal from the new hub will I ,thanks again take care

Re: New Hub

Either a dongle or a wifi PCI/e card..

I think with the new hub you might get a USB dongle free but probably some staff member will confirm

In the mean time though the ethernet wire you already have will suffice until you get the wifi setup

Re: New Hub

The Superhub will need to stay upstairs if that is where your incoming broadband connection is unless you have another connection downstairs.

If you have upgraded to 20Mb XL you will receive a Superhub only as only XXL and XXXL get a dongle.

So you have the choice of purchasing one from ourselves for £30 which will come with full technical support and a 2 year warranty or you can purchase one from any reputable stockist but we do not support 3rd part equipment.

Re: New Hub

Just thinking about the wireless dongle suggested in another of Roy's threads, which I believe is only wireless G.

Can anyone confirm if the new hub is N speed as a different dongle would then be appropriate.

If you want a Virginmedia supplied dongle you need to call Customer services on 150 from a Virginmedia phone line or 0845 454 1111 from any other phone.

Both hubs are N rated and so is the dongle.

Cheers. I was concerned that Roy didn't go ahead and buy the dongle we discussed in a different thread as he might have ended up stuck at G speed.

Re: New Hub

Hi guys what does that mean G speed ,I am more concernd about my speed it should be 20Mb now so they said ,and I couldnt believe it when he said it was in the box lets hope so cheers take care

Re: New Hub

The G thing is related to wireless speeds Roy. As wireless developed it gradually got faster as the technology matured.
Early wireless devices used Wireless B which was limited to 11Mb/sec. Later devices on Wireless G were capable of 54Mb/sec.
The latest development is Wireless N. This is faster still and also seems to give better range.

It's important to have a wireless dongle or card for your pc which will match the hub/router speed to get best performance.

Click here http://192.168.100.1/ login using the word root for the username and password and then click on Operation Config. and look for Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 20480000 as that is 20Mb.

Yes it'll work providing you provide them with the correct network key to get access to your router /internet.

Re: New Hub

Re: New Hub

Wireless and wired connections will work independently from each other, so yes: you can use (normally 4) wired machines as well as a number of wireless machines at the same time.

So it might have nice thick internal brick walls - which degrade wireless signals. But you'll just have to try it and see.

No you won't need to change them - you can use your current mail addresses.

roystheboy 20-01-2011 00:19

Re: New Hub

Hi no the wals are not that thick the Hub is practically directly under the P.C. so its ony the ceiling in the way thanks again for your help cheers take care best regards .

Hi Just got my USB adapar just plucking up courage now to Install the Hub and adaptar any advice would be great thanks take care best regards

danielf 20-01-2011 16:45

Re: New Hub

First connect a machine using ethernet cable and focus on getting that to work (reboot the hub and computer). Do not start faffing about with the wireless until the wired connection works. Once you've achieved the wired connection you can always post here to ask questions about the wifi and security etc.

roystheboy 20-01-2011 19:03

Re: New Hub

thats really good advice but thats going to be a problem because my P.C.is upstairs and the Hub is downstairs havnt got the earthenet cable long enough ,coulnt i just go for the wireless connection first as last with your help it should be O.K. shouldnt it thanks again cheers take care best regards .

Well done! Have you secured the wireless connection to prevent your neighbours piggy backing on it?

All hubs come secured out of the box as each has its own name and individual password printed on the side of the hub which can be changed by using the default login details which are also on the side of the hub.:)
