What are the differences in the boxes that prevent this ?

The SA box needs a video stream to record anything at all - the Samsung box doesn't, so can record radio.

Didn't Virgin promise this to the SA box at the launch of the Samsung box?

Couldn't they just splice the audio with a 'video' feed of, for example, the static logo of the radio station, so that the SA box has something to record?

Not that it bothers me personally - I never listen to radio anyway.

Re: V+ Radio channels recording

I was very disappointed when I first got a V+ (SA) box that I couldn't record radio as I listen to Radio 4 a lot - in fact I raised a formal complaint at the time about this as I felt it should be made clearer pre-sale. I was really pleased when I found out that the Samsung box could do this. When I requested a replacement box I was told that, as a long-standing customer, they would try to accommodate this but eventually was told that there was no way I could have a replacement box, even though I was prepared to pay for it. Has anyone succeeded in getting a replacement?

Re: V+ Radio channels recording

The V+ would only be replaced if your existing one had a fault. However, you could upgrade to TiVo, which can also record radio.

ps. Welcome to the forum!

May do that - although it's a bit pricey as I only have M TV and despite what it says on the website it's only available with M+ or higher - so an extra £9.50 a month. I shall think about it though....

Tivo can definitely record radio, I've just tested it in the office

Thanks! Do you reckon with everyone upgrading to Tivo there will be lots of Samsung boxes going spare? Tivo is very tempting....

Not everybody is upgrading to TiVo, it has been mentioned though that Samsung is the only available box now for V+ service new or replacement!

Re: V+ Radio channels recording

Radio recording was a major reason for my upgrading. My V+ did not record radio.

Just use the Radio Downloader to download the shows off iPlayer in mp3 so you can play anywhere. It allows you to set up subscriptions to download series.
