F1 2010/11 closed/pre season discussion

New thread for closed season talk, will also add a driver/constructor vote to it once all the drivers for the 2011 season are named..

Thread will close before the first qualifying of 2011

Seems Hulkenberg wont have a drive at Williams next season. Seems a shame after Williams had made some progress throughout the year but I guess it comes down to money.

Any thoughts if another team may pick him up?

Think next season could be really up in the air. We have KERS coming back and also Pirelli tyres. The new tyres are a bit of an unknown and we might find some cars just don't work on the properly at first and others do.

fair play to Webber he isn't blaming that on losing the title but you have to wonder how much of an effect it had

Re: F1 2010/11 closed/pre season discussion

Apparently there is now some fall out within the team as he did not tell them he was crock, or that he was writing a book.

I think that team needs to find itself and get some team spirit and trust I think McLaren have really come along in this respect this year.

There is still every chance that there could be two Lotus teams on the grid next year  . Renault are looking to sign a title sponsorship deal with Group Lotus to be Lotus Renault, yet Tony Fernandez has registered his team as Lotus Racing again.

I would have thought common decency would have led to Mark telling his team

Acathla 07-12-2010 12:45

Re: F1 2010/11 closed/pre season discussion

The problem with Mark telling the team that he was injured is that he already had concerns about team orders and if you tell them you have an injury, there is even more risk that they would favour the other driver over you.

Shouldn't matter as in the end Vettel won and Red Bull got the team championship.

It's official now. Renault are now only an engine and technology partner to the team formally known as Renault F1. They have a seven year deal with Group Lotus (Proton) to run as Lotus Renault GP in Black and Gold Livery:).

http://my.renaultf1.com/profiles/blo...ng-new-era-for

There are still stories that Tony Fernandez is going to run his team as Lotus Racing also in a black and gold livery.

I though tit would be confusing but we have got used to Red bull & Torro Rosso I suppose

Interesting new rules for 2013

Quote:

F1 ENGINE RULES FROM 2013
  • 1.6-litre, four-cylinder turbos with energy recovery and fuel restrictions to replace current 2.4-litre normally aspirated V8s
  • Fuel efficiency to increase by a target of 50%
  • Overall power to remain same at approx 750bhp
  • Checks and balances to ensure costs are contained and performance across all engines remains comparable
  • Fuel to be limited by fuel-flow restrictions and a stipulated maximum tank capacity
  • Plan for advanced 'compound' turbos to be introduced in subsequent years
  • Power of Kers energy recovery systems to increase from 60kw in 2011 to 120kw in 2013

It's a team sport there is nothing wrong with a two car team using tactics. It's always gone in since the sport was invented so I have no problems with team orders

Agreed, but what hacked me off was the Ferrari Schumi/Barichello shuffle in Austria, it simply was not necessary, it was more the Ruben deserved the victory than anything else. I think if the same thing happened again the FiA would use the bringing the sport into disrepute rule.

By the way Tony Fernandez has gone back to green and yellow for the Team Lotus livery next year, even though they went black and gold first........We will still have four Lotus' on the grid next year though.

The new McLaren really does look nice, up there with the nicest, let`s hope it`s as quick as it looks good.
Looks like most teams have gone for the high nose with long drop downs to the front wing and most cars look like duck billed platypus :erm:

Reckon the Renault could be a quick car, apparently they have some trick which creates a blown diffuser effect, don`t know if it`s true or not!

Yeah I think the situation is clearer today, from what I have read the doctors will need a few more day to confirm if he will be able to keep his hand. This is MUCH worse than it seemed early last night.

Re: F1 2010/11 closed/pre season discussion

You have to ask if it was prudent to be competing in such a high risk sport when all focus should be on the season ahead which has commenced already.
I know Renault agree it was ok and he uses rallying to hone his driving skills but with the pre-season testing underway and with the simulators available to hand I personally would want him on the job so to speak.

Sounds like he was stuck in the car for over an hour until the right cutting equipment could be brought in :(
This along with the Mark Webber and his bike incident could well make more teams insist on their drivers not doing a lot of activities. Then on the other hand the driver want`s to stay as fit and sharp as possible, is probably an adrenaline junky anyway so where do you draw the line! Simulators are all well and good but are far from the real thing...
I can`t see him racing for 6 months minimum.

Update on Kubica's condition from Autosport.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/89370

Kubica has left the intensive care unit and has been moved to the normal ward following another good night He is now scheduled to undergo surgery to his foot and humerus tomorrow morning, before having an elbow operation on Monday. The operations are expected to last around four hours each.

After that, Kubica will return to the intensive care unit for post-surgery course.

Italian media reports that, if all goes well, the Renault driver could be discharged from hospital as early as the end of next week

Sounds about as positive as it could under the circumstances.

Best regards,

Martin

No, because ferraris are heaps of unrealable crap.

(An old boss had one for 6 months 2 of which having its engine fixed, and he didn't drive it fast.)

It's actually the new F150 F1 car name they're complaining about... ;)

Now, if your Boss drove one of those on the streets! :D

Re: F1 2010/11 closed/pre season discussion

the article is out of date already. The car is now called the F-150 Italia and Ferrari will refer to it as that at all times, which it was anyway, and now drop the shorthand F-150.

As Ferrari stated they aren't selling, now ever will sell, the F-150 so not where the problem is to be honest

Barrichello in the Williams fastest after day 4 of the test.

Good news for the team, they have a really technically innovative low line gear box and rear suspension setup to maximize airflow to the rear wing assembly.

I hope the situation in Bahrain clears up, although I doubt it. In the big picture the GP is not that important really is it ?

Well Bernie has lost the plot yet again.

Mark Webber has dismissed Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone's idea to liven up grands prix with sprinklers to make tracks artificially wet.
What next Bernie "Land mines in the gravel traps, garrote wires appearing at random points".

Why don't he does retire, and leave F1 to people with IQs higher than a class of water.

Well I had the fortune of a day at the Williams F1 Centre on Friday.

Wow, wow and wow, that's all I can say.

The museum with all the Williams cars through the years and the trophy cabinet was amazing along with the driver helmets.

If anyone gets a chance to go, do it.

Yes because adverts during a race ruin it, there are many sports I love but they don't get any TV coverage.

For the dry-weather tyres, the logo will be silver on the hard tyre, white on the medium, yellow on the soft and red on the super-soft.
On the full wet tyre it will be orange and on the intermediate light blue.

I missed this bit.

Quote:

The F1 rules dictate that there must be a two-compound gap between the two available types of dry-weather tyres at each race, so there is no chance of the silver and white being confused as the hard and medium tyres will never be used at the same race.

Surely F1 viewing figures and overall popularity has risen over the past few years.

With the rise in technology and the display of these state of the art machines, More younger people are becoming more interested than ever. If they want to balance the books then Drop the crap shows or ITV or Sky will pick up on it.
