Poppy-burning: What a disgrace

www.dailystar.co.uk - muslims burn poppies

I find the story and photos are a total disgrace against every member of the armed services, that will be remembered on Sunday.

And the worst part is that some members of our society will agree with what they are doing. and the culprits will get away with it.

but what those ignorant people forget is that a lot of muslims died in the 1st and 2nd world war defending there freedom so to make it possible for them the protest freely today.

The difference is that they did it in their own country.

All three of the poppy-burners claim to have been born, educated and employed in the UK. Unless they're lying (and I think the papers would have been onto it by now if they were), they did this in their own country. ;)

how do you know that some or all of these muslims weren't British ?

what does stand out is the ignorance they show with statements like this

Quote:

Asad Ullah, 23, a spokesman for the group who would only say he was from London, said: "The British soldiers you remember on this day are soldiers who have taken innocent lives in illegal occupations and unjust wars.
totally missed the point of what poppy day is all about

Yup. Really no different to the skinheads and other assorted low-lifes who periodically gain notoriety for anti-establishment stunts.

Of course, because these people have brown skins and a different religion, there is something altogether more awful about it, apparently.

We are proud of they way we have freedom in this country and that our brave forces fight for us, and other countries who cannot defend themself, but l find this to be totally disgraceful.

This is the reason why we have so much trouble and we 'don't defend' our own people, we have various people who do so much to harm this great country and we let them, it is so sad.

All l hope it that they don't try it tomorrow of all days.

To all the services for tomorrow l say 'thank you for giving us that freedom that we cherish'

The thing is Art, we can and do "defend" our own people and our own way of life. Our way of life is long-established and built on freedom. In the face of protests like this it is like throwing pebbles at a 10ft thick castle wall. We defend ourselves by letting them have their fun, then shrugging our shoulders and getting on with life.

Idiot protests like this just bounce off. They aren't going to achieve anything and they aren't going to change anything. The only time we would actually need to take medieval steps like banishing people or hanging them for this sort of thing would be if we were an insecure medieval society, rather than a complex, mature and stable democracy.

Where to begin.........

I agree with you that burning poppies is disgraceful, but bear in mind these idiots are doing this to provoke reactions, and by over-reacting we would be validating what they say (muslims are oppressed and other such bolleaux).

I served for 3 years in a city (West Berlin) surrounded by a country ruled by those who brooked no dissent, no differing views, and stamped down hard on those who thought and behaved differently from the world-view the government put forward - I defended the rights of those in that city, and in my country, to speak out, and to put forward uncomfortable and differing views; why should we not give the same rights and freedoms to others in our own country today.

Thank you for your thanks, but please remember the defense of freedom is being done for all, not just for some, and to try and deny some those rights would defeat what those who serve serve for - cherish freedom for all, not just those who agree with you.

PORTSMOUTH'S muslim leaders have condemned those who protested outside the city's mosque.
Scores of demonstrators gathered outside Portsmouth's Jami Mosque this evening. They were protesting after a small group of Muslims - not from the city - burned poppies in London during the two minutes' silence on Armistice Day.

The protest, led by former soldier David Tallard, congregated outside the mosque at midday and numbered only a few.

It broke for Pompey's home game against Doncaster, and gathered again shortly after 5pm this time with scores more taking part.

I find that hard to believe as I thought there was still Islam to think about when it comes to these things?

A large number of Brits wear poppies in commemoration of the victims of all wars fought by British citizens, including Muslims.
This is not something we should be supporting. We are not sanctioned to support poppies by the Sharia law, The Daily Star quoted Choudhary as saying.
He added: Were talking about the Second World War and this doesnt have anything to do with Muslims. Muslims are not allowed to participate in anything that is clearly British nationalism.

Some Muslims can think for themselves and can arrive at a completely different conclusion about what the Koran means compared to those whom consider themselves Islamist.

After all there are several hundred different flavours of Christian around the world.

Please let's not get into 'all' muslims again when we're discussing just a handful. even if it is your Birthday.

I quoted a Muslim as saying "Muslims are not allowed to participate in anything that is clearly British nationalism." so there's a doubt as to whether having a poppy painted on a mosque would be acceptable. which is what I said "I find that hard to believe"

Gary, I could quote 'a Christian' as saying it's acceptable to shoot and kill doctors outside abortion clinics where "preborn children’s lives [are] in imminent danger."

You can always find an individual nut-job rent-a-quote. It doesn't mean that the intelligent thing to do is to treat their words as mainstream and significant, just because they happen to fit your personal prejudice.

You have no justification for claiming there's a doubt about the acceptability of putting a poppy on a Mosque, just because you managed to dig up a quote by someone who asserts it.

don't many muslims have different opinions of things as it is, where some may believe one thing is forbidden, and the rest think it's not?

Of course I do.

Isn't it strange, Gary, how you only promote and quote the views about Muslims that are negative, and don't seem to understand why other posters get bothered about your inability to see both sides of the story?

You seem to only quote the "nut jobs" that support your negative views, and then caveat and question the validity of any other Muslim who propounds reasonable, pro-Western, anti-terrorist views, saying things like
Quote:

You seem to have one rule of validity and certitude for statements by extremists (they are true and represent the views of most Muslims) and another for moderates (how do we know they represent the views of most Muslims, they might just be their own views).

Kids claiming to be terrorists.

Quote:

The 12-year-old yobs threatened to attack terrified Darius Gill, 13, with knuckle dusters and knives in revenge for not supporting Islamic extremists.
The chilling threats came hours after Darius – whose father is Asian – posted a touching tribute to the thousands of squaddies who have lost their lives defending Britain.
But a gang of pupils at Sidney Stringer Academy in Coventry – a predominantly Muslim area – expressed outrage at Darius’ patriotism.
One message – littered with spelling mistakes – said: ”Fight on Monday gonna be heavy knuckle dusters nd knifes hopefully I don’t die.”
His pal added: ”ill bang him ma slef am a terrorist.”
One of the thugs also posted a chilling picture of himself holding a rifle.
Shockingly, other pupils – who have set up a Muslim Defence League which celebrates British deaths in Afghanistan – also added comments condemning Daruis.
Fortunately Darius’ mother Clare Allington read the comments on Monday morning – the day of the promised attack – and immediately pulled her son out of school.
Facebook is evil. I wonder if they would have carried out the threats?

Any bullying is out of order, and threatening use of weapons should lead to exclusion (it did at my kid's secondary school).

Mrs Allington doesn't seem to have a lot of luck with schools..... Link

If the allegations are true then I don't really think. the term "bullying" quite fits. And if someone is willing to knife another then I doubt threatening to exclude them from school would dissuade them much.

That was the first thing that crossed my mind.;)

Did anyone ever search the little miscreants at the time to see what weapons they were carrying?Or was it all talk?

Johnstone doesn't have a huge muslim population so I'd imagine this was a result of some home-grown half-wits.

What's a ned? I'm guessing its slang for something but seems odd to see it used in print.
