Is this the start ?

A simple question, With the protests in London yesterday of the riots from students causing thousands of pounds in damage, could this be the start of bringing down this coalition government, with dissent in the Lib Dems ranks of what proposals the Tories are putting forward, with the Clegg going back on his word, what is next ?.

Maybe. Couldn't rightly sure for sure. Could be Yes, Could be No. Maybe a little of both.

A tiny group of "anarchist" thugs won't make any difference at all.

yeah, i generally feel by turning to violence it destroys any political argument they may have had, and removes the weight behind it

Re: Is this the start ?

I think there's more civil unrest yet to come. some proposals are not yet in force so not much chance of anything from the public yet. but when (such as working for your dole) starts. I think this country is going to see riots and civil unrest as a common thing.

the demonstrations against the war didn't hit anyone in the pocket as such, but when it comes to something that does hit peoples pockets, then that's where we may have problems I think.

I personally think that Cameron is trying to do too much in such a short time. that in itself is the problem I think.

Re: Is this the start ?

Nope. None of the protests when labour were in power caused the slightest bit of difference so a bunch of unwashed students rampaging through an office block in search of hot water for their pot noodles won't cause an overnight revolution.

LOL @ pot noodles. I think people have changed since the old protests. there's people now who will just go to the protests to cause anarchy. if we have enough protests about seperate issues and the anarchists go along to them ones then we got trouble :)

No. Yesterday was merely an example of yobs taking advantage of a legitiate protest to cause trouble. Same as the G20 protests under the previous government.

It was nothing more.

No.

If nothing else the Lib Dems can't jump ship as they know it would be suicidal. They need to hang on until the economy has turned the corner and they have something to show for things.

The Lib Dems on the left of the party were inevitably going to be nervous though the alternative was even more unpalatable, acting like sheeple to Labour's manifesto.

They literally have no choice. The major danger is most likely Europe and the potential for a referendum on Merkel / Sarkozy's required Lisbon amendment. Even Herman Van Numpty can't get around the coalition agreement.

NO

The government should never give in to those that use violence or those that think its ok to damage property

Additionally anyone damaging public property should be made to pay for its repair and anyone attacking a police officer during that riot should go to jail.

Arthur i take it you cannot wait for all this violence and damaging of public property.

And lost power 13 years later after breaking about every other promise they made and leaving the biggest deficit for the Coalition Government to clear up.

Re: Is this the start ?

I believe that this violence at protests is sick and totally out of order.

It is everyones right to protest, and that is what is good about this country, but l can see this happening again, due to the policies that this government bring out, l was around when the poll tax riots was on, and l didn't think that would happen again, but it did yesterday.

If this coalition gives out info on what it is going to do, then it has to stick to it, Clegg even admitted he was wrong on Tv by saying his party would not increase the fees, then he does a u turn, and the fees are doubled.

Sorry ;) Back to the topic, my answer to the question raised in the original post is...

No.

Re: Is this the start ?

While I do agree that the students have every right to a peaceful protest (indeed, it is *important* that we are free to protest anything we don't like). That does not include the right to violence.

Personally, I think that whatever party ended up in power, we would have had similar cuts. We would have had to.
