BT Fibre Checker Updated, New Tools Too

All,

The BT Wholesale checker has been updated, it's now less conservative with its' estimates.

In addition Trefor of Timico has very kindly made a new checker page which uses Google maps to show enabled postcodes, which cabinet they are served by and dates for enabling.

Still don't understand this. Loughborough is on the phase 6 exchange list for March 2011, and for a while that was what the BT.com/infinity page said as well. But for the last 4 weeks the infinity page now says end of December 2010. Are they ahead of schedule?

My parents house can now receive BT Infinity the checker is indicating 49mb down and 10.9 mb up how accurate are these figures ? They're currently with VM but are considering switching to BT once out of contract.

My estimate was way above what I ordered so can't say. Most people I have spoken to have found they got more than the estimates though.

Thought ignitions post was a new one, not 3 years old lol. For that reason I didn't answer before....thinking the estimates were different from last week :dunce:

On the lower tier you may get 1 or 2Mbit slower than the full 40/10. Not sure of the reason why but I have had this over two addresses with Sky.

Small price for such a reliable, consistent, low latency un-managed connection :D

I assumed the overheads would be smaller than that. Too lazy to do the maths :tired:

Outside of the first month after install, is there anything that can make the fibre modem change the calibration? Crosstalk or change in tbe copper part of the line?

DLM

I worded that badly wrong! Meant to ask what would cause the DLM to change the speed or latency and if the connection between the fibre hub and the property is the only part that affects it?

Its very possible that I still worded it badly lol

DLM is similar to DSL syncing

Re: BT Fibre Checker Updated, New Tools Too

Crosstalk will affect the performance of the line and this will depend on the number of active customers on a cabinet. As FTTC becomes more popular expect the line speed attainable to drop... The effect may be reduced if vectoring makes it beyond testing!

I had a load of power outages a couple of weeks ago, turned out to be a dodgy multi-plug tripping the fuseboard, anyway it kept me on fastpath after that, then i unplugged it the other day to move my desk out to clean behind and when i put it back in a couple of hours later it was like that

You might find that the download speed goes down a little bit over the next few weeks, as well as the upload increasing.

Scottish Power will be the company providing the power - Openreach haven't branched out into the Electricity market yet ;-)
