Julian Assange accused of rape (Updated)

Warrant issued by Swedish police

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-11047025

..and then retracted

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11049316

I guess the 'Powers That Be' will just take the easy route and have him bumped off anyway.

They don't need to probably. his brakes have never been too good anyway.

They will now appeal to the Supreme Court

Mr Assange's lawyers say they will appeal at the Supreme Court.

They have 14 days to bring the case to the highest court in the land, on the grounds that it raises issues of general public importance.

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has lost his Supreme Court fight against extradition to Sweden to face accusations of sex offences.
The judgement was reached by a majority of five to two, the court's president, Lord Phillips, told the hearing.

As the US pulls the UK's and Sweden's strings I think his extradition was pretty much inevitable.

Why won't the US just extradite him right from here if that were the case?

Are people saying that he should get away with anything? IIRC He is not denying that events took place, just the nature of them.

You do realize that one of the accusers is a member of a group that:-

has received criticism for its cooperation with various alleged islamist and antizionist groups and people.

Julian Assange arrives in Sweden on a speaking trip partly arranged by "Miss A", a member of the Christian Association of Social Democrats.

Errrm, what relevance does that have to accusations of rape?

Which post are you referring to?

The accusers are themselves being accused of lying, in order for him to be sent to the US. If at least one of the accusers seems not to be a supporter of the reasons for the US wanting him, then why would she/they be lying?

Update
Quote:

The Supreme Court has dismissed a bid by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to reopen his appeal against extradition to Sweden over alleged sex crimes.
Seven judges of Britain's top court unanimously dismissed the move by Mr Assange as being "without merit"......

......
The court has given Assange a two-week grace period before extradition proceedings can start.

Once the fortnight is up, officials have 10 days to fly Mr Assange to Sweden.

BBC's legal correspondent Clive Coleman said that this was "pretty much the last attempt" by Mr Assange to legally fight extradition.

The anti-secrecy campaigner could still take his case to the European Court of Human Rights.

Ah well I'm sure his supporters can afford the loss of the bail money they put up for him.

Personally I think he comes across as a little turd, not an heroic defender of everybody's freedoms and the right to know..

Much as anyone might think they have a right to know, sometimes they can be putting some one's life at risk and to expose them to that risk is making a judgement that maybe it's not ours/his to make.

Re: Julian Assange accused of rape(Update)

Not the first time it's happened I know, but this reveals a bit of a hole in the justice process doesn't it. Of course it's probably not a hole that would benefit many ordinary people and you do have to wonder a) why Ecuador might want to give asylum to this guy and b) whether, if they do grant his request, they'll have to smuggle him out of the UK in a crate full of secret diplomatic documents... :D
