Re: Speed tester
Unless you are on a 50Mb connection then use speedtest.net.

Re: Speed tester
http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/ is usually very accurate for 50 meg lines, as is http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/
I've found both to be consistently accurate, and they're quick and easy to use too. |

Re: Speed tester
Has anyone heard of www.updn.co.uk
This is one that the faults department told me to use. Seems pretty accurate and it works on the same principle of downloading a file from the Virgin Media server. Still downloading from the blueyonder demo folder still gives the most accurate results. |
Re: Speed tester
http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk gives me the most accurate results (got my full 10mbit)
20 seconds after www.updn.co.uk only gave me 7mbit my speedtest.net graph is quite the mountain range https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2010/08/72.jpg id like to see VM improve their routing to other countries so we dont have to keep taking these local speedtests to see what the problem is |
Re: Speed tester
are you having a trouble with something?
A lot of the time people start speedtesting their connection when something isn't working - there are a lot of people on this forum that can help with any issues your having |

Although lacking a upload and latency test its running on the bbc servers so what can i say? |
Re: Speed test is inaccurate
The download speed on my 10 meg broadband is very inconsistent and I get impossibly fast results sometimes when I check it:
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2010/08/25.png https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2010/08/26.png speedtest.bbmax.co.uk test results I installed a new modem yesterday and although it appears to have made some improvement, I occasionally struggle to open web pages and pictures can sometimes appear almost line by line instead of instantly. Anyone else ever had this problem? |
Re: Speed tester
I personally wouldn't trust the Maidenhead speedtest.net server. I live less than 2 miles from the server yet it only ever measures my connection as 10Mbit/s, half the rate at which it is actually running (I have a 20Mbit/s connection.)

Re: Speed tester
I get that issue with speedtest.net you can use 3 different servers and get 3 very different results try this website www.fuller.zen.co.uk/test it's quite safe use the 100 meg file either one will do and check the transfer rate

So it looks like I won't be using Google Chrome for speed testing from now on! |

I get approximately 1200KB/s (Took around 86 seconds for the 100MB file to download) for Google Chrome and Internet Explorer, which is probably about right for a 10Mb/s connection. Thanks for the suggestion. |
Re: Speed tester
Yep mine' comes in at 2.2 to 2.3 Mbps as I'm on 20 meg
