VIP with 50 MB broadband

Re: VIP with 50 MB broadband

I believe you'll find everything here:

Code:

http://allyours.virginmedia.com/websales/product.do?id=11029
The VIP 50 is just as the VIP 20, except for 50Mb replacing the 20Mb. The VIP 50 is £8 more than the VIP 20.

Also, as of today, you get the SKy Premium HD channels with the VIP 50:
Code:

http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/TV/Changes-to-our-VIP-50-Bundle-from-5th-August-2010/m-p/107310
The VIP packages include line rental but if you want to have two lines you would need to take out another line with Virgin

It's £97.50 according to a poster in the VIP/VIP+ thread

You should have them now, i reckon. I don't see how the new modem affects your virgin box.

They should still be on, but they might not be actually cause technically your 50mb contract doesn't start until it's been installed so maybe not as you're not being charged for it. I'd give them a ring anyway just to see what they say :)

You have to be on VIP50 which is £97.50 a month and is this package but with 50mb broadband instead of 20mb http://allyours.virginmedia.com/webs...ct.do?id=11029

So you're saying that you have a V+ box and 2 additional boxes? If so then you should only be paying £103 I'd get on the phone to them and sort that out

Then it should be £97.50, ring up retentions and say look I'm paying £115 can you please put me on the VIP50 package so I can get all the discounts and bring my bill down to normal

Simple really the more you pay the more you get.

Upgrade from VIP20 to VIP50 and for £8 you get faster BB and the HD channels on one box.

No you can upgrade any time but your in the driving seat and you only have 2 or so month left of your 12 month contract so see what you can get.

Remember call retentions

Are you on VIP20 or another package?

If VIP 20 you can keep your current kit and upgrade to VIP 50 - all they do is send someone out to install new Moden etc.

If your on another package the VIP package now comes with VHD Box for the 2nd box - online there is a £35 activation fee but guessing thats for new customers.

I would call up and ask.

I currently have XL TV with Sky Sports + Movies HD for £63.50/month. Using the online planner it seems if I just added 50MB BB my monthly cost would rise to £100.50. So VIP50 would appear to be cheaper even though I have no need for the second box.

I just hope my account isnt going to get all messed up with all this.
I`m upgrading to vip 50 from vip 20 and installation of the modem is next wednesday. I`m not bothering with an upgrade to a hd box upstairs, so its just a modem swap + activation for the broadband I`m having.
I`ve just checked my account online and I have already been given a credit of £35, ( which obviously is the free install) but I`ve now had 2 x £7 credits put on the account which is probably something to do with getting credits for the HD while still on Vip 20.
If you can follow all that

Do you just have a TV package, i.e. no phone/phone line rental and BB.

Just phoned up retentions. They've offered me a deal of £99.44 each month which includes the SKY HD channels on both boxes and they've taken off the talk international and talk mobile options which I never use. I've kept the 20 Mb BB as that's fine for me at the moment. I'm quite happy with this deal.

Yep completly agree - it does not make sence but go for VIP50 for £97.50 and you get a hell of alot more.

I have done a few ways just to get XXXL BB and XL TV with Sports/Movies and HD and best is £100.50 - unless you call and get a better deal.

I guess its down to if you really want 50mb BB or maybe another TV/BB option might be best.

But VIP 50 Does give you the best of the best at the best price of £97.50

I have VIP20 however I did previously have 50mb broadband and still have and use the 50mb modem.

If I upgrade to VIP50 will I be asked to pay the £20.00 activation fee up front by debit / credit card or will it be included in my next bill?

Well rang up earlier after reading this and your other post and somehow managed to get a similar deal. First person I spoke to basically said you must have been lying lol. Second person ended up (after quite a bit of talking and messing around) offering £98.44 (for everything you have though slightly cheaper for some reason) but then we have paper billing so the extra £1.25 made it £99.70.

The sticking point though was that he stated we'd have to pay the £75 installation charge that 'should' have been charged when we first got the additional V+ box. But he ended up talking to his manager and managed to get that knocked off (well it'll appear on the bill but also with a £75 credit too). So it took quite a bit of messing around (unlike yours) but it should be sorted now :D. Thanks for your posts ;). Now here's for hoping the bill comes through correct lol.

Re: VIP with 50 MB broadband

Called Virgin about upgrading my service from VIP 20 to VIP 50 and I'm a little bit

I already have the new 50mb modem, I had it installed about 9 months ago when I first took the 50mb broadband. About 4 months ago I changed my service to the VIP package and my broadband connection went down to 20mb.

The person I've just been talking too advised if I want VIP 50 they need to send a technician out with a brand new modem:confused: Surely it should be a simple process of changing the connection from their end and within a few hours I should have the new HD channels and 50 mb.

I repeated time and time again I already have the new modem but I was told time and time again I needed a technician visit and another new modem.

I told her not to bother with the upgrade for now.

Can anyone tell me if the information I received was correct?

Oh and to answer my own question posted earlier, the activation fee is added to your next bill.

I did try earlier to get them to send the signal a third time but they wouldn't have it and just said you have a technician calling tomorrow as you must have a fault in the box. I get the other HD channels alright!

Chad 06-08-2010 20:29

Re: VIP with 50 MB broadband

I'm sceptical about needing a technician visit as I've had a similar issue like this play out before. I used to have the VIP package 3 years ago then downgraded. About 18 months later I upgraded to VIP once more and told Virgin I already had a V+ box from the previous time I had VIP. They insisted they send a technician with a new box.

When the technician arrived he was very, very, very pi**ed off to find I already had a V+box. He asked me why I hadn't told whoever I spoke with that I already had a V+box. I told him I did, numerous times. He ranted for a bit then apologised.

---------- Post added at 21:29 ---------- Previous post was at 21:05 ----------

Great news, I called Virgin back and got someone who was totally switched on. Not only do I not need a technician, I don't have to pay an activation charge either as I already paid £20.00 for activation within the last 12 months. I was assured I'd have 50mb and SKYHD before kick-off times tomorrow. The mention of the footy season was a nice touch.

A lovely lady who just made my day! That's me got pretty much everything Virgin offer including mobile. At this rate I'm expecting a Christmas card from Richard Branson! :D

When does Virgin Bank launch?

Well done I wondered if it was worth giving them another ring and asking them to try to send the signal again for the sky HD package.

LOL it's not for the want of trying I've rang them 4 times now to try to resolve it and 3 of those times they have sent the signal and still it says unsubscribed still.code 3043. looks like it's down to the technician to try to resolve it tomorrow.

Can some tell me why I am getting charges 107.50 for VIP 50 instead of 97.50. I only have a v+ hd and a v box.

We might be able to help if you display the Advance Charges section from your bill here.

Found out what it was, I noticed there has been a £10 charge going back since 2009 for something called MAX.

I called VM, they said it was for some ASIAN channels, and it looks like it was put on in error as the code is very similar to the SKY Movies codes.

Anyway, they agreed to refund 7 months of the charge.

Can anyone tell me if this is right? Been onto retensions about upgrading from vip20 to vip50.
Was told i am currently paying £97.99 and to upgrade to vip50 would be £103.00.
Have 1 v+ box and 2 standard boxes
Does that sound right?

That's correct. £97.50 for VIP50 and £5.50 for extra box.

As you are already more or less paying £100 per month, surely it can't be difficult to decide to pay a fiver more to get more than twice the speed BB and Sports and Movies in HD?
