Sky Sports HD3/HD4

Hi There

Having subscribed to Sky Sports HD1 and HD2 with Virgin Media does anyone have any idea when Sky Sports HD3 and HD4 will be available?

Is there a particular reason Virgin do not have HD3 and HD4 available at present?

And also will upcoming Sky Box Office sporting events such as Boxing and WWE be available to order in HD?

At present through what I have seen and heard on other forums sky will not make HD3 or HD4 available to virgin unless ofcom force them to. And I doubt very much that any of the box events to be shown either, sky only allowed virgin to get sports 1hd/2hd because ofcom forced them to make them available.

I think you will find that Sky wants to hang onto 3 and 4 so they can say

"All 5 Sky sports channels in HD only on Sky"

It will not be long before they start there funny business and move major events to 3 and 4 :(

surely wrestling is better in SD. HD will make the fake hits too clear to see. In up to 5X more detail. You might even see the gap between fist and face. :D

If they do then OFCOM will apply the same 'must offer' wholesale conditions to SS3 and SS4. That would potentially open the door for BT Vision to get those channels along with SS1 and SS2 and there's no way Sky will risk that, not after broadcasting those 'pizza slice' adverts which target BT.

Long, long wait I reckon for SS3HD and SS4HD on Cable. I'll add SSN HD to that list as well.

I am sure we will get it at some point people use to say we would never get Sky Sports xtra all those years ago.

I would love to know how far in the future SKY would like to dump SD versions of their channels from their EPG, I recon 3 year why would they want duplicate channels one in HD and one in SD

zantarous 04-08-2010 23:49

Re: Sky Sports HD3/HD4

No way will they start dumping SD channels that soon. It will be years and certainly not till a large majority of their customers have a HD box, currently that is only something like 10% of their customers.

Sorry where did you get the 10% figure from:confused: In relation to VM for example has I think almost one million V+ customers, I know most want the PVR functionallity but they are HD enabled, and as been stated on this forum it seems replacement for faulty V boxes are now being replaced with new VHD ones

Didn't Sky pass the 1 million mark last year for HD subscribers? Still small compared to their 10 million customers.

Well still 70% have the SD boxes so still a lot of people have SD boxes.

They just changed Soccer Saturday to being on Sky Sports News only after it's been simulcast on SS1 for years. Not too concerned about the loss of HD fo that because it's just in a studio but it's another kick in the balls for BT customers.

Sky love their little games and ofcom seem powerless to stop them from playing them.

For years sky have made good use of BTS phone lines and now BT get access to sky sports 1 and 2 sky seem to be throwing their toys out of the pram again, good grace is not in their vocabulary sadly.

When big buisiness does this only one person suffers the poor consumer who can do f-ck about it as always.:(

As for sky sports HD 3/4 in about five years if ofcom are still around expect another 3 year pay tv review that would be 2015 with the conclusions in 2018 with vm possibly getting access to these channels in 2019 or am i being too cynical.LOL:D:D As if.;)

for a programme that only has text and a few old footballers do we really need it in HD ? We still get the programme so no real loss there

Jameseh 07-08-2010 01:19

Re: Sky Sports HD3/HD4

It doesn't matter what program it is, Sky are changing the channels of programs soley to either stop BT from watching it altogether or to stop us from watching it in HD, eg. football league. Last year most games were on 1 or 2 especially if premier league wasn't on, today Norwich was on HD3 and Horse Jumping or whatnot on HD2. It's just not on.

I kind of agree that Sky are playing the games but Sky do have more games to show this year with more PL games, SPL, Carling Cup, Champs League, Football League and so on they can not show all on 1&2 even when games kickoff at same time from different leagues.

Sky tried last year to show game after game but they always had either a cross over of clash of times and this year is going to be no different.

All I know is all PL games are on either 1/2 subject to last game of the season were it will show more than 2 games.

Re: Sky Sports HD3/HD4

Thinking on your comments of having many games to show, I wonder what the chances are of Multiscreen or whatever the Sky Sports Red button is named, being in HD when it arrives (based on MB's list)

being the 1st game of the new season they could have shown it on 1 or 2 I agree with the OP and it is typical of Sky

Red Button will be in time for Champs League and I think I recall its Sky Sports 2 thats has the multi screen function for Champs League and Sky Sports 1 for Football first.

Re: Sky Sports HD3/HD4

Well its the same for me too i sub to sky sports for the cricket mainly, and took HD on a months trial to see how good it really was and lo and behold sky put a pro 40 match on sky sports 3 and HD 3 whilst i could watch the match the HD was not available to me.doh!

So its not just football fans that think they are being played around,re-skys tricks you only have to look at skys ad for its new HD sports news channel, when the presenter says its going from freeview ie BT he positively gloats, now if thats not sky sticking two fingers up to BT vison viewers i do not know what is,yes i am sure sky may have some more "little" games in store yet, pity no one seems powerful enough to stop them sadly.:(

By the way football fans i understand your frustration that early season championship matches have been on HD3 sports, but please remember once the season starts properly most of the matches will be on HD1 and HD2,there are other subs as well that may sub for the golf, tennis,or cricket at certain times that would also love to see the match in HD so its not all about football;).

SSN PRESENTER #1: Good news! Most of you watching this channel won't be able to for much longer!

SSN PRESENTER #2: That's great news! Isn't that great news?

SSN PRESENTER #1: Indeed! And....we have some BREAKING NEWS!

SSN PRESENTER #2: SSN sources have exclusively revealed that SSN going High-Def!

SSN PRESENTER #1: And most of you won't be able to watch that either!

SSN PRESENTER #2: Aren't we great?

SSN PRESENTER #1: We rock!

SSN PRESENTER #2: At Sky, we believe in better!

SSN PRESENTER #1: Better ways to restrict our content; hold back HD versions of our channels whenever possible from other platforms; and making you pay for stuff which was previously free on terrestrial TV.

SSN PRESENTER #2: And if you're already paying for it....

SSN PRESENTER #1: ...well find some way of making you pay more. Eventually!

SSN PRESENTER #2: Sky. Believing in better...

SSN PRESENTER #1: ...profits and less competition.

;):erm:

Oh and boy are they making everyone pay for it. The average pub subscription has risen to above 15k per season, my local pay over 22k per season and the average price hike (despite SKY saying it is between 8-11%) is actually around the 20% per annum. (Source to follow)
