And the greatest TV Comedy double act ever is..

Horne and Corden, according to SeeSaw.com..

http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Sho...In_Futile_Poll

Don't get me wrong, I like Horne and Corden (Gavin and Stacy is one of the funniest programmes from the last few years). They are both funny (although Matthew Horne is better as a comedy actor), but I don't think they are even good together as a double act

I watched their sketch show and didn't laugh once. The same when I saw them presenting a show at Indigo2.

I find it staggering that they beat comedy greats like Morcambe and Wise, the Two Ronnies or Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer.

Personally I find them about as funny as a serious outbreak of piles.

Seriously did they do their research by asking two people in the Gavin and Stacey fan club that had never seen any other TV?

Re: And the greatest TV Comedy double act ever is..

They also had some comedy flop vampire movie out a while back and I cannot be bothered to look it up, as a comedy duo they are crap compared to any of the true greats as per Stuart's post above.

I found Horne and Corden cringingly unbearable to watch....

Re: And the greatest TV Comedy double act ever is..

Morecambe and Wise
The Two Ronnie's
Cannon and Ball

......even the Chuckle Brothers!

But any of the actors from Gavin and Stacey? No comparison with any of the above.

Crikey, I'd even suggest Ryan & Ronnie before those two and they worked mainly in Welsh.

Im not that old... But seriously...

How can any modern day duo compete with these..

The Two Ronnies.
Morcombe and Wise

Even watching the Repeats on Gold still cracks me up..With both even the Sexual innuendos are so inocently portraid...

These were so natually funny it's difficult to put it into words...

I like cordens stuff....But can't help to feel its just acted rather than straight form the head..

Re: And the greatest TV Comedy double act ever is..

Corden was ok to start, and was good in Fat Friends and thought he was a good roll model for the larger people. Then when Gavin and Stacy came out I thought that was OK as well, but in the end it started to be all about the people behind the characters.

The stand up comedy sketches of Horne and Corden was dire, didn't Corden say himself that they were a mistake and wasn't funny. Then came the world cup and the lead up, and the all the award ceremonies and Corden's face was everywhere. To the point you just want to kick it in, now he's just a fat tw*t.

The Ronnies etc (basically any of the longer standing acts) are far more funnier and talented. What a joke.

Define TV Comedy double act, I would add Craig Charles & Chris Barry in Red Dwarf.

Horne & Corden? Who? Never heard of them. Old favourites Laurel & Hardy's films are still being shown 60-70 years later.

I loved Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez if only for the fact that this was the first TV duo who showed that women could be as funny or funnier than their male counterparts..:)

Yes there were some good US comedy acts. But my point was before Lucille Ball there were not many funny ladies apart from the legendary Mae West.Even after Lucille there were very few. :erm:

Normally, the accepted definition is two people who perform a series of funny sketches or jokes either on TV or on stage. Traditionally, they take the form of one funny person and one who isn't funny (the so called "straight" man) who is often the butt of the funny person's jokes.

E.g., in Morcombe and Wise, Eric Morcombe was the funny man, and Ernie Wise the straight man.

Not all acts follow that format. Vic and Bob don't. The Two Ronnies did (to some extent), as they were both funny (I liked some of Ronnie Corbet's monologues for instance) but Ronnie Barker was always the funnier of the two.

While they are funny in Red Dwarf (and both are funny in other things) Chris Barrie and Craig Charles don't fit in with that definition (to my mind) because they aren't comedians as such. They are comedy actors.

People do sometimes get the two mixed up. For instance, Catherine Tate is often called a comedienne. She says she isn't, she is an actress who is known for playing comedy roles.

Not to mention Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis, but I wasn't a fan of their style of comedy.

Calm down dear, it's just a commercial (a.k.a silly season press release).

Seesaw.com's user base is a bit self-selecting; I don't imagine that many of them have even heard of Eric and Ernie.

Stephen Fry & Alan Davies if you wish to be slightly 21st Century.

However I am surprised it wasn't Matt Lucas & David Walliams (cant stand them myself).

The Odd Couple, Felix and Oscar as played by Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau.

Hated James Corden at first, but he has won me over slowly as a lone comedian, Horne & Corden is *****, their film was *****, Gavin & Stacey is sh...well, you get the picture.
Don't know if they're a true definition of a comedy double act, but surely Del Boy & Rodders have got to get a mention?? ABsolutely hilarious.

Again I have to address the issue of swearing.Yes we have a swear filter and it catches most things BUT self censoring your swearing doesn't help if you leave letters in place to indicate what you have said.

I know it's tempting but please how about avoiding swearing altogether if you can?

Thanking everyone in advance.
