Sky movies HD BETTER THAN sd?

Just wanted to guage peoples opinions on this, do you think the picture will be much better or just a slight improvement?

On my 32" Panny HD offers only a slight improvement over SD. Certainly nothing to get excited about.

Mind you I do need new glasses but..................

Might be worth a 1 month trial? Only you can see if it's better really. :)

On a 32" i wouldnt bother, 40" or more I reckon it'll be worth it

Remember that the V+ will be trying to upscale any SD picture is you are already watching using the HDMI cable. For a true comparision you need to watch between scart for SD and HDMI for HD.

Note it is not only the picture that may be improved. True HD channels should also get a digital surround sound, although that will only be of use to those who have proper surround sound setups.

If you want to offer that to me for free then it's a done deal! ;)

Yes on a 37 inch it is very noticeable.

Won't it all depend on viewing distance?

Exactly. I notice a big difference with HD on my 32" TV, viewing distance probably about 8 feet. I've always found the pic quality on the Sky Movies SD channels to be pretty poor, so I would expect a big improvement for the HD versions.

Er...doesn't the Sky HD Movies service launch tomorrow? Or have some got it already??

If its the same as the improvement of Eurosport HD over SD, then its a big difference, can't watch Eurosport properly now unless its HD. I'm on a 32" screen and can tell the difference.

I think we're all just using existing HD channels as reference at the moment.

We have a 42 inch and notice the difference quite a bit

I can see a huge difference on the Sky Movie channels, far more noticable than the Film4 SD vs HD comparison as the standard def versions of Sky Movies are so poor.

I watch my 32inch tv from about 1 to 1.5 ft and I can tell teh difference.

Not that my opinion is reliable lol.

Still when I have people round they do say it's better on HD.

Its an improvement, but in saying that, you could not get any worse quality than SKY movies in SD. So the only way was up I reckon. Thats how SKY can justify the prices it puts on its premium HD channels. The jump in quality from SD to HD is far more than with other channels.

Never mind your opinion being reliable, what about your eyesight. Any closer and it becomes "Interactive" TV.:):):)

My eyesight is not going to get any worse by the closeness of me watching my tv ;)

I must admit it is definitely 'interactive' already lol
