samsung v+ freezing

Hi, my couple of months old samsung v+ box has started to have problems in the last couples of days. Symptoms are loss of sound and stuttering picture and/or the box stops responding to the remote. Rebooting by powering off only and the problem comes back within a few minutes. Reformatting the hd fixes it for about an hour. I called virgin but the indian call centre just said to leave it 24 hours and see how it goes. SNR is 32, pre and post rs errors 0 per 0.5 seconds, agc signal level 38. Manchester area. Any advice appreciated!

A reformat won't cure any of those issues! Check all connections, then call Support again.. you may need a tech

If they say to keep checking it rather than sending a tech out, tell them it says 8888 on the front of the box, that ought to get them to send someone out.

NOTE: My advice is at user's risk ;)

No, your advice is very poor. Assuming the CSR believed you (they may well know V+ boxes NEVER say 8888) the tech would turn up, see it is not showing 8888, and go away again

Report the actual fault, then they will follow the correct investigations for that fault.

That would cost the OP a callout charge for wasting the engineers time and DTV engineers are more likely to add the charge, so not the best advice in the circumstances.

If it's faulty be firm and ask for an engineer, you might get an sa box though

No need to be firm as the diagnostic flow will tell them what is required to rectify the issue.;)

Thanks for the replies. The box worked ok for about a day but I got home last night to find it completely frozen and no picture. An engineer is coming round later.

Re: samsung v+ freezing

When the engineer came out a couple of weeks ago he diagnosed a low signal and booked a repull which took place yesterday when i was at work. However the box now does not turn on and displays stop when holding the power button. Another engineer is coming round on friday..

My SA box is being replaced with a Samsung; apparently there is a shortage of Samsung V+ boxes due to a bad batch from Indonesia. Check where it's made!
