Grrr Firefox.
 

Yet again Firefox acts up for no reason I can fathom.

Now when I click on a link instead of just opening a new tab it opens a whole new Firefox window...and yes I've looked at the options and the right ones are ticked including the one about opening a link in a new tab.

Now I'm back to right clicking links to open in a new tab..A small issue but still irritating when a browser just seems to change without any input from me.


For one thing opening multiples of Firefox will just use up more of my new RAM memory and I can't be having that...

So can anyone shed any light on why this is happening or is this newest version 3.6.6 prone to this?

My home page changed to CF a few days back, a quick restart of firefox sorted it out. It does tend to have glitches now and again but i'm prepared to put up with it in the name of personalisation :)

I've had something similar with other versions of Firefox. When I clicked a link it'd open in a new tab, even if it was a link to the same site I was visiting (eg. clicking Unread Posts on here). I'm pretty sure that it sorted itself out when I restarted my laptop.

Well blow me I did as cimt said and it cured it. :confused:

What I want to know is what made FF start behaving that way in the first place?

I hadn't changed anything since the last time I used it yesterday..and what makes FF suddenly lose favourites from time to time without me altering anything? :shrug:

I save my FF favourites from time to time anyway.

I'm just irritated that a browser that's supposed to be so stable keeps behaving like a spoiled teenager from time to time..:erm:

Sorry can't help you with firefox as i don't use it, glad you got it sorted though, just to let you know I use win 7 with Google Chrome and Avira free A/V, this combination has been working faultless and fast for a long time. :)

Very strange. I am currently on v3.6.6 and have never seen this problem.

If a restart fixed it there is a chance that your system was reading your shift key held down. Have seen it happen before though not since XP aside from one time in windows 7 when I enabled sticky keys by mistake.

As for the favourites thing, that has happened to me too though only seems to happen when I shut down my system without closing Firefox and even then rarely. Easy enough to restore if you look in the Firefox user folders.

Well yes we can restore them but my point still stands.Why does Firefox do this?I never had it with I.E and indeed the only reason I went to FF was because of the continuous security problems in I.E.Not because it suddenly upped and changed settings on me..

I think its because of the way Firefox saves your favourites. In FF they are saved as one big HTML file and if FF is interrupted while writing to this file (Like with a system shut down) The whole file can be destroyed or corrupted. In IE favourites are stored in a conventional folder and each link has its own individual file (Or at least that's how it used to be in IE 6 which was the last time I used IE as my main browser). Favourites could still go missing in IE but it would be individual links rather than the whole list.

I think the problem with Firefox is though a backup is created and is easy enough to manually restore there should be a way for the program to sense what has happened and automatically restore from the backup. Or at least an option from within the program itself rather than browsing the hard drive yourself. Though this could already happen on the latest versions as I haven't seen this problem in ages.

i continually get the message "firefox is not responding please shut the computer down" so i have gonr back to using i e 8

Does anyone else have to wait ages (like 20 seconds or something) for Firefox to open? I am running it on an XP desktop and a Win 7 lappie and they both take ages.

I had that on Windows 7 before, but I've never used FF as my default browser, just for testing web pages I've made. I just stick to IE8 most of the time

Could be plugins container.exe process causing problems.

I disabled it and things run much faster now.
