Wimbledon 2010

Started today, and Falla is serving for the match in his first round opener against Federer...

MOD: As usual this will be the only Wimbledon "sports" thread going, please use it as such and only threads based on current events (i.e new articles and not sports related) may be started other than this thread ;)

PS... Will Murray finally get his crown??? :D

Re: Wimbledon 2010

This match is tense! Federer has been holding on and has come very close to losing the game only to stay in it by the skin of his teeth. Pulled back a 2 set deficit to level at 2 - 2, came very close to losing the match in the third and forth set. Federer only seems to show any signs of winning when dominated the 4th set tie-break.

5th set now and he has broken his Falla's serve and held his own. Might have been a bit too much for Falla.

Looks like Federer is running away with the 5th set.

Re: Wimbledon 2010

Wow. Federer loses the first two 5-7 and 4-6, wins the next two 6-4 and 7-6 (overcoming a break in the fourth), and goes on to win the fifth 6-0. Some scary moments there.

Good news though. It would have been a shame to see Federer go out so early.

The game at the moment is ridiculous (on BBC2) it`s 2 sets all and 40 games each

Gotta be some sort of record...

IIRC there was once a match where most(if not all) sets were a bit like that. This was before they allowed tie breaks in sets.

Love the comment on the BBC site - maybe they should just do Rock, Paper, Scissors. :D

Great stats and everything else but something needs to be done - 137 games without a break of serve is ridiculous.

Was a really dire game to watch if the numbers were ignored.

Re: Wimbledon 2010

No way of fixing it since the server has such a massive advantage, you could make it first to 20/50 or something but then it's a coin-flip based on who started serving first. I guess some penalty system could be devised where they aim for the ball girls/boys for points. I may actually watch it if that was introduced :P.

OK - so what do they do with the old balls when new balls are required?

Re: Wimbledon 2010

Steroidena Williams is looking a fair bet for the women's title now.

Mens' draw all top 4 seeds are in the quarter final - Federer vs Nadal in the final with Murray as the wildcard in the mix perhaps?

Long time ago when I belonged to a tennis club, we bought them at a substantial discount.

In those days they came in boxes & scrawled on them was the court which they'd been used on....

Not sure if it's the same today!

He does look a bit out of sorts.

I'm not a lip reader but I don't think he was too happy about that last point :erm:

Re: Wimbledon 2010

With Federer getting knocked out and Nadal suffering from a groin/thigh ingury, Murray must fancy his chances of winning the title this year surely?

Please enlighten me if I have been misinformed :)

Ignitionnet 02-07-2010 19:19

Re: Wimbledon 2010

Nadal had no injury as far as I was aware.

Murray is looking like he's following the Henman tradition of choking on the key points.

Not that far from matching Nadal just at the important points Nadal upped the standard while Murray made unforced errors. One major shot also that he just failed with over and over again to the point where Nadal knew what was coming.

EDIT: Just to prove the point for me on match point against him an unforced error into an open court.

He needs to go learn how to hit a forehand so it's not such a huge target for good opposition and get some sports psychology work done, not good enough physically or mentally and he'll rely on Federer or Nadal being injured or below par to have any hope of winning a slam on this form, they are a class above.

I thought the men's final was tomorrow?

Sorry, my mistake it's Serena Williams. :D

She is built like a brick poo house in comparison to her opponent (Zvonareva :naughty: ). She is one scary lady.

And the winner is Serena's PED dealer.
