Looking For A Replacement Laptop
 

My ASUS F3JC laptop just well belly up so I'm looking for a replacement with the same spec or better.

Funnily enough, the 13" Apple Macbook Pro matches this spec but unfortunately I have PC software which I need to run.

Can anyone recommend a high spec, high performance laptop please? TIA.

I'm using an Alienware M17x at the mo, a snip at £3900. Nice though but its not mine thank God. But I do highly recommend one. :D

you do not mention a price limit thats always a good place to start

Thanks for the replies, guys. My limit is about £1700. I have seen some that come close but one or two components let them down.

Apart from the usual surfing the net, contributing to forums etc I use it with Microsoft Office, for e-mail, genealogy, video-editing, use it with Skype to contact my brother who lives 300 miles away, listening to MP3 music, playing games, C++ programming, Quick Basic Programming, collecting TV opening sequences from Youtube, syncing with my Palm M105 and with my mobile phone etc.

I have 20mb broadband so I need a laptop that can keep up but I also need it
to have a lot of input/output connectors to connect with my scanner, printer, video camera, SLR etc plus I have three flash drives and other USB devices that I can plug in.

I use it at least 6 hours a day so I get quite a bit of use out of it.

OK but I would still say that the 1700 budget is a little overspecced personally

I am hoping to get it for a lot less but just saying that is the budget I have available if necessary.

A 15" Apple Macbook costs £1499 but its a great spec and hopefully it would cope well with anything thrown at it.

I'm hoping the same from my new laptop but don't want to pay that unless it's absolutely necessary or I find a really great deal.

Updated model of my laptop. Excellent choice. May be worth contacting best buy UK and seeing if they have a better price on it. I got mine from Best Buy USA while I was over there.

Thanks for the posts, guys.

After a lot of research I finally settled on the HP8540w Elitebook obtained via Amazon for £1592.22.

It comes with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit Version so I'm going to have fun learning which apps I can install and how they can be installed.

The Elitebook is a good choice. I can't stand HP's customer service but they make some mighty fine laptops, especially their higher-end ones.

I know you mentioned you need to run PC software, but you could always do that on a Mac with Bootcamp or Parallels Desktop. I run Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro all the time and it performs really well. Any of the Intel Macs (all of them now) will run Windows apps without any problems.

Thanks for that. Had not realised that about the Macs but it's all academic at the moment.

Maybe someone will devise a program that allows you to run the latest Mac OS on a PC!! LOL!!

google for hackintosh, it can be done. If only Apple would license Mac OS for the purpose.

theres a few different varients similar to that. Tried afew over the years had success with some and nightmares with others lol
