looking for a program to create ringtones for iPhone
Hi,
Im looking for a program that will allow me to select a 30 second part of a track thats in my iTunes Library for use as a ringtone on my iPhone. I would also like to use some of the music that I have purchased in iTunes. In other words use the DRM protected music. Anyone know of a free program for OS X. Tried using iMovie 09 but found that too difficult. |

You will need something to strip off the DRM first. I've only ever used Itunes to create a ringtone. |
Re: looking for a program to create ringtones for iPhone
sorry thats what i meant strip the drm first then select the part of the song i want to use for the ringtone. How have you used itunes cos i get a network connection error if I try to create the ringtone that way.

Can't you just select the song from your iphone and use that?

Re: looking for a program to create ringtones for iPhone
Is there a Sound Recorder program with OS X?
It's probably all that's needed to record 30 or so seconds of music, whether it's got DRM or not. Then trim it with a sound editor such as Audacity. |
Re: looking for a program to create ringtones for iPhone

Why have the 'hassle' of creating them, ok, not much hassle but easier to d/l.
I've used this site before, easy and free. |

Open iTunes. Listen to your chosen track & make note of the 30 second section you wish to use as a ringtone. Right-click (or whatever the equivalent is on a Mac) on the track within iTunes , select "Get Info". Select the "Start Time" & "Stop Time", & then select "OK". Go to "Advanced" (top menu in iTunes), & select "Create AAC Version". iTunes will then create an AAC version of your 30 second selection, & add it to your library. Make note of where the file is, & delete the track from your library (but choose to keep the file). Find the file, & rename the extension from ".m4a" to ".m4r". Move the file to wherever you want (I have a "Ringtones" folder within my "iTunes" folder). Add the file to your iTunes Library. iTunes will now see it as a Ringtone. Go back to the original track in your iTunes, & get rid of the time selection. If the track has DRM on it, one way to remove the DRM is to burn it to a CD, & then rip it back off of the CD. |
Re: looking for a program to create ringtones for iPhone
matt, i think that is the easiest way the only thing is that if you use the same song that you have in one of the albums in the ipod bit of ur phone then when u listen to u ipod it only plays the ringtone bit of the song, what i do is make a secound copy of the song then do it to that one.

Re: looking for a program to create ringtones for iPhone
I use the original to make the ringtone, but keep the ringtone files in a separate folder. After making the ringtone, I always make sure I go back to the original track in iTunes & deselect the 30 second section, as well as remove the initial newly created 30 second AAC from the library.
