I rather doubt this coalition will last for long especially if they give the Liberal Democrats proportional representation as the carrot.

How long was he in there to resign? Did he just chuck the letter on the desk and go?

If he had a cup of tea, it certainly did not touch the sides.

To assume that the only course of action is to place cameron in power, although the most likely outcome is not necessarily the only outcome, to assume so in such an environment could be classed as a Premature Evaluation.

... And if the Lib-Con deal falls through, we'll be having another election soon...

--------------------------------------------------

My thoughts: Although I'm not a Tory, & do not particularly like the Tories, I think that this is the only outcome which could have worked. We need a stable Government with a healthy majority in the House of Commons: the only way we can get that with this month's election results is for a coalition between the Tories & the Lib Dems. A "Rainbow Alliance" or "Progressive Coalition" simply could not have worked.

Assuming a deal, I'll be voting yes in the AV referendum, and will be hoping for some other decent concessions to the Lib Dems.

It will also be nice to see the back of New Labour's ID Card scheme & over Orwellian nonsense...

And the Tories have already said that the absolute furthest they would go is a referendum on AV, not PR.

The Tories would never go for PR. I think offering AV would have been hard enough for them to swallow.

I beg to differ - there may have to be some difficult decisions made, as the books have to balanced, but Cameron is a consensus politician (much to the disgust of some the more right-wing members of the Tory Party).

But I am sure you won't let facts spoil your prejudices.....

If Labour had won the most seats - but not a majority - and if the Lib Dem bubble hadn't burst & its wins & vote share had reflected the earlier polls (maybe 100 seats, but with a higher share of the popular vote than Labour), it could perhaps have been conceivable for Clegg to be PM within a Lib-Lab coalition (as Clegg could have been seen to have more of a mandate than Brown).

Over 13 years Gordon sold off the best part of our gold reserves for peanuts, raided the pension funds and incurred the massive debts we're all now going to have to pay more tax to repay. He set up the flawed regulatory system which allowed the banks to run riot (and almost bring this country down) and built an economy based on credit. Just before it all went pear shaped and his massively remortaged house of cards collapsed, he doled out knighthoods to Fred the Shred, told the City that he wanted to 'encourage the risk takers' and predicted a 'golden age' for the City of London. In what way is he not culpable for the mess we're in and what now has to be done to stop UK PLC becoming Greece?

If the last Tories were so terrible why did he and Bliar copy so many of their 'flawed' ideas on the economy etc. rather than use their massive majority in successive parliaments to get it right and do it better?..

If you're going to carry on blaming Thatcher et al for all our ills don't get upset if in 2023 the rest of us are still blaming Bliar and Brown for what went wrong on their watch and the tough action that had to be taken to put it right.

He could try to go it alone with a minority Government... and would then promptly fail to command the confidence of the House of Commons when the Queen's Speech got voted down due to the Tories not having a majority of seats... causing the Government to fall & a new election to be called.

You can see the massive increase in spending plus a reduction in taxes with which he tried to bribe the electorate in this attachment.

I heard before the election they were thinking of changing chancellor to Ken Clarke as he served as chancellor after the last recession in the early 90s. during his spell he managed to halve the budget deficit while at the same time reducing inflation, unemployment and the basic rate of tax from 25p to 23p.

Could this be a new era of Brand New Politics? Let's hope so. I did like some of the Lib Dems policies.

Want to know the deal darn it!

Fixed four year terms. No cut in Inheritance tax or Marriage tax but tax free allowance raised.

Allow we know so far.

David Laws seem depressed and, in answer to the collation, that there were many ways to do that. Eeeeek.

Clegg will be Deputy PM - that way he can share both the kudos and the blame... :D

Yes, meaningful appointments that show that they want the new alliance to work and last.

Well I guess Cameron's logic is that Clegg can't be as useless in the role as Prescott was... :D

If that is true, when DC takes time off for his new arrival NC will be running the country.

Who would have thought that a Lib Dem could be running this country

See I thought the idea was that whenever the criticism got too much the respective PMs would bugger off on holiday leaving Prescott in charge as a warning!

What a novel concept, have someone running something that they've had first hand experience of(Paddy was a member of the Special Boat Service).

Edit: Sorry, looks as though he was a Royal Marine, sure I read somewhere that he was in the SBS.

As I voted Labour, at least I can say if the Tory/Lib Dems screw up and make a bigger mess of things at least I can say I didn't vote them in. And if they do a better job and make things better then at least it'll be a bonus. So win / win either way.:erm: :disturbd: :nutter: :D
