Acer Aspire 5630 DVD Writer can not be seen and will not read?
 

Hi All

I have an Acer Aspire 5630 Laptop with Wndows Vista Home Premium. When I put a disk into the DVD drive it dosn't read it and the drive itself is not showing up on "Computer".

Can anyone please help? In device manager there are two little yelow triangles with exclamation marks in them. I have tried updating the driver software in device manager but it says the drivers are upto date?? I have also tried uninstalling the drivers in device manager and restarting the computer to allow them to reinstall automatically. When the laptop restarts a window pops up that says:

"Error reading TrayIcon1 -> Visible: Cannot Create System Shell Notification Icon" to which I have to click "ok" to allow the system to carry on reloading.

Next in the bottom right hand corner a box pops up saying installing new drivers. I click on it to watch the progress. It then says that both drivers have failed.

The drivers are called:

"MagicISO Virtual DVD-ROM0000"

and

"PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K17RS ATA Device"

I have searched the net to try and find a reliable source for these and have had no luck. The Acer website does not appear to have them so I am completly stuck on what to do next???

Is my DVD writer broken or do I need to reinstall the drivers that I can not find???

Can anyone please help?

have you tried deleting the devices from device manager and rebooting?

You might find that MagicISO is interfering with the actually hardware device driver.. Remove MagicISO fully, remove the hardware device then reboot

I have uninstalled MagicISO.

How do I remove the DVD writer?

Device Manager. Expand DVD device, right-click, Uninstall.
Then restart pc and hopefully it will be found and re-installed.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried what you said and the same thing happend like before; when the small box appeared at the bottom right hand corner and it said installing, both drivers where shown as failed.

Any other ideas?

Funny this problem seems to love occuring with Acer Branded software haha

Im assuming you dont want to open the laptop up because of warranty

I have no other ideas because others listed the most obvious ones

Last thing I can say is back everything up and Run E-recovery Management

that will roll back the drivers and Factory Reset the computer wiping all data with it

so what are the steps that you've already taken???

couple of things that I would do is 1st of all uninstall MAGIC ISO totally from the system, then run a registry cleaner and remove any trace of Magic. BEWARE make sure you create a backup of the registry incase something goes wrong.

When removed also delete the drive from the laptop, reboot and hopefully it'll install just the pioneer driver on its own without any other crap associated with it.

most reg cleaners will do it for you ,just tick the "back up registry" box before cleaning

I tried uninstalling the majiciso but when I go into programs and features and hit uninstall a box comes up that says Could not open INSTALL.LOG file?

Can anyone help?

that would suggest it has already been uninstalled ,and is showing as a program because there are still some old program files and registrys on your system ,run the cleaner to clean out the registry this will remove the old registrys ,also you could go into the program files list and delete the old files for majiciso

I completely unistalled magicISO from my machine and did the registry thing a number of times and the drivers are till showing up as failed.

Gotta be honest here, if you cant find the download link maybe messing with the registry isnt for you (no offence meant here). Sounds to me like you just havent removed magic ISO completley and its interface is messing with the Pioneer drive as mentioned above. Maybe System Restore back to before you installed Magic ISO might be an easier option for you?
