Ricky Martin comes out

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8594121.stm

Next they'll be telling us the pope is Catholic and bears defacate in the forest.

Reminds of that line from The Simpsons when Mr Burns says "It's the biggest waste of effort since Ricky Martin's girlfriend".

I hate this about gay people, what is the need for everyone to know who cares, just get on with your life.

Yeah, what right has a gay person to hide, it's not like they were persecuted for centuries as evil and finally before acceptance classified as a mental desease for 60+ years...

....Oh that's right they were.. ;)

Seriously though it's all about what people around them expect.. I wonder how many singles he sold to young girls based purely on his hetrosexual connotations??

Ricky who?

Re: Ricky Martin comes out

Of course you can understand why someone would want to keep it quiet as Kymmy has said, especially someone in the entertainment industry.

I'll never forget when Rob Halford let slip in 1998 on an MTV show he was gay, loads of people in the rock and metal community already knew, but the fans didn't mind one bit, appreciating him and his talent.

You'll always get some Neanderthal who'll have to say something, but society is best ignoring those kind of folks anyway.

I wouldn't have thought it was as many as you might think - his sexuality was one of the worst kept secrets for years, he was expected to come out just after he left his boyband. I don't have any doubts it was kept under wraps to maximise potential sales for girls but I doubt many were fooled.

What I can't stand is celebrities who we know are gay, we've accepted them as such yet they dance around the issue. Dale Winton was an example, he kept saying "I know people think I'm gay but I'm not saying" for years but really, was that ever going to damage his career? Dale Winton?!

Mika is another one, for years he wouldn't confirm or deny and finally he came out and said "oh ok.....I don't like labels but if you must call me anything, call me bisexual" when he is in fact gay.

I can understand it when a celebrity is marketed as straight and they are worried about coming out might lose them fans but when it's pretty obvious (or at least they're already accepted as ambiguous) then I think they're just being delusional.

Secret kept or not.. young girls buy based on what they want to believe.. very rarely do they buy based on what they truly believe ;)

I always remember the exchange from 'Bottom' (I think)

'such-and-such has come out of the closet'
'What was he doing in the closet?'
'Having sex with men I think....'

Re: Ricky Martin comes out

An explosive revelation...... or would have been 10 years ago, when anyone over here new who he is!
I wish these people would just have their one wretched 'hit' and fade away, instead of lingering on like a bad smell.
Can we expect a comeback revival (of his 'hit') now on the back of him confessing his sexuality?

That was like you said 60+ years ago people have moved on, I don't shout out that I am not gay, so why should he, he is human just like me, just because he likes the same sex why shout about it like its a big thing, its not.

Because of course, you never ever come across straight people mentioning their sexuality or referring to their opposite sex partners

In what context are you speaking Cookie?
" Here is my wife/Husband"? Surely thats the normal way to introduce your other half. :erm:

I couldn`t give a toss if someones gay or not but why do they have to announce it to the world.?

Just because you may not agree with another views on sexuality is no reason to resort to petty flaming and insults towards other members. A number of posts will be deleted. Any continuance may see harsher intervention.
