Sounds like your tv is auto-switching? Check your TV settings and set to WIDE.

The V+ if connected by HDMI should also be set to 720 or 1080i WIDE (if you want SD channels to be stretched)

What TV have you got and what model? It will be related to your tv setting.

Does the tv have any other aspect settings you can change?

Re: please help with TV and Box

Can you post a picture or detail your menu settings tab under picture or advanced so we can see what your settings are? It sounds to me that it is going to be a simple setting change to correct this.

Re: please help with TV and Box

it can be put into wide, cinema, 4:3, 16:3, subtitle.
Screen settings from virgin
Widescreen
RGB

Re: please help with TV and Box

V+ Box should be Widescreen & RGB and then on your TV set it is switching between Widescreen and 4:3 depending on whether the program you change to is in widescreen. On your TV remote, there should be a button saying either WIDE, 16:9 or 4:3/16:9. When your TV changes to 4:3 automatically, you need to press that button until it is on Wide, or use the picture menu that you have stated the options available for above.

Ben :)

Well is there and option to 'Store' the setting on the Picture menu so that it always stays in Widescreen?

Try switching "V+ auto detects scart" to off in the V+ settings

They can't increase your signal from the office, even if it was that causing the issue

I don't know why some staff say things like this! It's some setting on your tv that isn't keeping it set to WIDE or it's a scart lead issue... some tv's (especially older models) sometimes need pin 8 removed as switching channels sends a signal to the tv via this pin).

do you still have the scart lead you had with Sky? Try connecting with that... it may have pin 8 removed.

Re: please help with TV and Box

It is normal for some channels to switch to 4:3 which is a pain in the rear. Most TV's have a setting where you can keep it set from Auto to Wide so that the picture doesn't automatically change format. The box should be set to widescreen and the TV wide. Have a look through the settings to see if you can set it permanently to wide.

Is your TV connected to the VCR scart on the set-top box? If so, change it to the TV Scart.

It's connected into the sky box that's it. Then the sky box is connected to the tv
I'll try from tv menu

Re: please help with TV and Box

Post a list of all settings in your TV menu and what they are set at. Perhaps we can spot something that is a miss. If you knew the model number I might have been able to look in a manual.

Yes, but there are 2 scart connectors on the back of the V+ box, one marked VCR and one marked TV. If your TV is connected to the VCR scart you will only get 4:3 pictures. Make sure that the TV is connected to the TV scart on the back of the V+ box.

Re: please help with TV and Box

Turn off the picture aspect auto switching within your Toshiba menus. That'll sort the problem out.

Oh you've already discovered it, I'll read the whole of the thread in future....
