Just upgraded to 50MB
And i gotta say its really good, I am downloading at speeds of 6.0MB/s. I had a bit of a problem at first, when the guy installed it I was having crazy speed decreases, disconnects and i was really worried. I rang up, and some guy over the phone said something about power levels being to high (iv no idea) and said he can get the guy back to my house within 5 minute (which he did, so spot on customer service) he come back and did some stuff outside, changed a "tap" (whatever that is lol) and now everything seems to be running smoothly, even my Virgin TV is actually preforming better then ever.
So i guess this is just a plug for anyone who has not got the 50 upgrade, or cannot afford it, you really do get what you pay with virgin from my experience. The internet is always up, speed is always fast, i mean i am download demos at 2GB in a few minutes, its incredible. So i thoroughly recommend anyone who is not with virgin to switch, i really do think they are a good service to be with. I have tried Sky and BT and this one is by far the best iv had. The one thing that would make Virgin the absolute PERFECT package, is Sky Sports HD (Me and my mates REALLY want this!) so I hope we do one day get it. Anyway, thats all i wanted to say. This is my first post, Its just a praise thread but i am a happy customer : ) So Thanks. P.S The equipment they supplie you with is also rather slick, the new black modem and router and i also got a USB dongle which is worth £55, so even more goodies from virgin which will prove useful) |
Re: Just upgraded to 50MB..
You are not the only one happy with VM's service, myself included. It does make a pleasant change though to see a first post in praise of VM. Most people come here because of a problem.

Re: Just upgraded to 50MB..
I have to say I haven't had too many problems although their offshore customer service teams need to improve a lot

Re: Just upgraded to 50MB
I must admit I do speed tests and rarely get over 40Mb, but downloading via newsgroups always get around 48Mb so I am happy, TV can be a little shakey sometimes, but phone does what it needs to, other than that perfect all the time.

Re: Just upgraded to 50MB
Some speedtest.net servers just can't handle the speed. It doesn't matter if you have 50Mb if the other end is on a 64kb ISDN link.
Try Maidenhead then London. The former on my 20Mb gives very low results, the latter always around 20Mb. |

Been with VM and before that with Telewest (for a good few years), have not had to ring up their tech support service once! Cannot fault the service, and hearing a story likes yours makes me think i wanna get the 50mb now! |

Re: Just upgraded to 50MB
Got my hands on 50MB yesterday about 11:00am, and spent the rest of the day sorting it out. Will share the story (ending is somewhat happy :-) but there was some sadness and frustration in between.
Technician (good!) installed so that cable modem/router connected by ethernet cable to this, my main desktop. All installed no probs. Got 44-45Mb on his tests. Then came the tricky bit - VM supplies a free "wireless N USB" stick by D-link to have your highspeed broadband wireless. As I want my system of two laptops and one PC to be completely wireless, and as the PC is only a coupla metres away from the router, I proceeded to install the dongle. Hours went by as I attempted to set up internet/network access for ALL users on this Win7 PC. But to no avail. Only the main/admin user got it. Resorted to ethernet and uninstall, because.......... Laptop #2 got Blue Screen Of Death upon activating WLAN switch. Uh Oh!! This took even longer to sort out, restore and recover. Eventually succeeded in disabling the wireless, and got a normal boot happening. Install of the dongle on that laptop proved straightforward. And it works on other users too. Result - ethernet PC, two wireless laptops. FYI - both iPhone and xBox needed to have SSID/WEP keys re-entered despite me using exactly the same of both for old and new network. Happy bunny here! 35Mb or thereabouts all day today on the ethernet. About 17Mb on my "g" laptop. About 38-39Mb on "n" laptop. 16 (yep 16!!) on iPhone - howzatt?!? Upload is awesome at around 1.5Mb everywhere - did a YouTube tonight and it blistered my eyes!! ---------- Post added at 23:28 ---------- Previous post was at 23:24 ---------- https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2010/02/54.png |
