good service

I had a problem for the last week or so with picture blocking and sound going so called virgin on monday afternoon and was told to call back tues if problem was still happening to give it 24 hours and to see if it was a local problem. I called back yesterday afternoon and an engineer was booked for this morning, he came and fixed the problem. Excellent service Virgin.

It's good to hear positive votes for VM. It shows signs that the company has come along way since the takeover.

Re: good service

he changed the isolator ??? connectors/splitter, checked setting on both the v+ boxes, the digi box is on a separate feed and not affected, seems to be fine now anyway.

He also said there was some moisture inside the isolator,

Re: good service

Maybe he meant the brown box on your wall outside ???

Re: good service

Just found this in another thread on here:

It's whats called a galvanic isolator. Basically there is no direct connection between the cable from outside, and your equipment. This acts as a safety feature - should equipment in the cabinet go faulty, it reduces the risk of damage/electrocution to your equipment and you, and vice versa. Also, it prevents something called a "ground loop" which causes interference.

---------- Post added at 15:14 ---------- Previous post was at 15:12 ----------

no it was inside the house, the brown box is outside at the front of the house and the isolator is inside the room at the back of the house

Re: good service

problem not solved, last night it started again with the picture blocking and sound going, having a re visit tomorrow morning.

Re: good service

When I had that problem, it turned out to be the signal levels were too low, once he turned them up at the green cabinet down the road things improved.

Now I don't get any sound drop outs or picture blocking as such, just a bit of pixelation on certain channels.

Do you know what your power levels, snr etc are on the V+ box, maybe you could post them on here if you haven't previously.

Lets hope vm continue with the good service and get it sorted for you.

i'm at work now so will check the levels when i get home but the engineer checked the boxes and said the levels were as they should be. My wife called this morning and as i said the engineer is coming back tomorrow morning, very quick response anyway and hope it can be sorted.

Re: good service

well he has been today and now says it is a network problem that they are working on and will be fixed as soon as possible, all the ITV channels are completely unwatchable and some of the others are just blocky and sound dropping

The isolator protects teh network and the customer from surges that could damage equiopment it will mostly likely be in the brown box befor ehte pslitter
