The only thing I have got on ITV HD is posted in Post One.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

ITV HD was exclusive to Freesat as ITV were one of the backers of that service. Not sure on the status of that contract but it isn't even on Sky HD yet either

bayards 04-01-2010 10:58

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

True - although Sky HD viewers can manually add ITV1 HD but no EPG entry. ITV1 HD will also be appearing on Freeview HD (soft launch Dec 2009) with first boxes due in a few monmths.

I just want more HD content, especially after spending £900 on a 46in plasma and VM only having 6 dedicated HD channels. I can't be the only one in this position!

Hi Elsie, I fell for the same trick, and my HD cost me 1200 for a plasma, l feel really conned, VM told me they would have 30 CHANNELS in HD by the end of 2009.

How have you been conned? Virgin didn't sell you the TV.

And besides, common sense is to wait until you HAVE the 30 HD channels before you go splashing out.

I personally wouldn't go out and buy a fantastic expensive TV upon hearing something like that. I'd make sure I have the channels before splashing out.

zantarous 04-01-2010 21:05

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

I am sure the 30 Channel claim was by August 2010 after the last batch of HD channel launched.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

can't see I have ever seen anything like that officially from VM anywhere and they would be pretty stupid to promise that without getting the deals signed.

I can't find the quote I am sure someone will pop along and post a link to one, if you look at post one MB has this listed for July 2010. As it is just before the Investor meeting I can see some credibility in this although my forst ost was incorrect, I do beleieve it was quoted as 20-30 and did not specify if this included the 7 that already broadcast.

Everyone is right and wrong, arthur jsut using it as excuse for paying for hdtv.

During the last quartly results the question and answers there was a question by someone that was how many HD chanel do you think you will have. The response from the CEO was hopefully 20-30 by spring summer 2010 nothing about 2009 and it was not garantee they would have that amount. The problem came since a lot of customer was asked to doa survey on teh HD channels and peopel think that means we will be getting them.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

As far as l am aware, in 2008 it was announced by VM, that by the end of 2009 we would have approx 30 HD channels, on VM. This has nothing to do with the fact that l purchased the V+ BOX purely as it was better quality that Sky+, the HD tv purchased with the HD channels in mind. I also bought the HD Tv becuase l was told by VM themself, that the channels would be there. I am quite happy that we will have to wait for the channels to arrive, BUT l am not the only one complaining about the delay in HD channels.

I would also like to know if someone can answer if there is a possibility of Magic 105.4 for LONDON coming back, as it appears yet again VM take something off without telling anyone.

If that's the case there must a published quote, or press release saying that.

Info from Virgin Media Results from mid 2009.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Remember though that part of that was based on 'we would like to get the Sky HD channels, and are working with OFCOM to do so'. Although they then said they hoped that process would be completed this year, it's a different thing to any other channel agreement

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Here is a good point, If these HD channels are coming on, WHAT channels are going off, as l believe l read on this forum, VM don't have enough capacity on its cables.

BenMcr 07-01-2010 14:59

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

The analogue cable switch off will free up enough space

Arthurgray50@blu 07-01-2010 15:03

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Does anyone know if there is any info of when its likely to have text on VM.

BenMcr 07-01-2010 15:06

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

What do mean by text? All the channels already carry subtitles where available.

Digital Text is available on the BBC channels by pressing the Red button

Telextext no longer exists on any platform. The company discontinued their services last month

IIRC 1 analogue channel = 10 Digital channels or 4 HD channels

The main point is that they DID say it (Arthurgray50@blu was right) but it was being inferred on here that he made it up or was somehow mis-quoting!

The fact that VM said this is a massivly positive thing. Yes there are contactual agreements that need to be done and no we still wont get the Sky HD channels but they are not ignoring that they know we want more HD and all the non Sky ones surley are more than possible to get!

IIRC, VM were making no predictions of how many HD channels they would be carrying back in 2008. Also did they actually say they would be launching up to 30 channels by the end of 2009 or did they say that it was an aspiration for some time in thenot too distant future? I think if people suspect that information being quoted is wrong they have a right to ask for links to back it up.

I have just seen on Wikipedia that E4 +1 is on the M package in Ex-ntl and Ex-CW areas but is on the L Pack in Ex-Telewest areas of Virgin TV.

Can any Ex-Telewest viewer with the M Package tell me if E4 +1 has appeared on their pack.

I have just noticed something, concerning CBS channels.

On VM they only have CBS Reality, an yet to me the best one is CBS Drama, all the channels from CBS are on Sky, so why are they not on VM. Any reason?:)

Hi Toto, l believe the answer to the HD channels in 2009, has already been answered, it was said by VM, way back in 2008, that we would get them by the end of 2009, but this has happened. It has been stated that we will get them this year.

Arthur NO IT WAS NOT, stop twisting things for oyu own good. firstly back in dec 08 they said they hoped to have them by 1st quater 09 then they said they where workign on it, then a internal source said it would be july 09, that then happoened. they then said late last year they hope to have 20-30 hd channels by mid 2010 on the question and answer. WHAT THEY DID SAY IN 2008 WAS, they could have up to 30-40 hd channels if they switched off analogue ie that how much space they would have not that they would have.

Sorry Arthur, I do not think you have. In post #32 on this thread you said:

So what was your answer? Did VM announce in 2008 that by the end of 2009 they would have approx 30 channels, or was it said in 2009, and did they say they would, or that they hoped to?

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Hi Toto, Just to clarify it, l read an article in October 2008 and it was by CEO of VM, that he planned to have between 20/30 HD channels by the end of 2009.

I believe this was at the time when we had the trouble with Sky basic channels. We have now heard that this will be this year 2010.

I won't get into an argument over this, as this has been confirmed by several members on this forum, and not just me, I am now accepting the fact, from what l have read, that it will be this year. I read a lot into this over the past 18 months, but some people do dismiss it.:)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

I have read The Beano twice in the last 18 months, thats a lot for me too!!! However there is a distinct difference between planned and definately happening. the best of plans may not happen. Hitler planned to take over the world and irradicate in his opinion the inferior species' within the world. That didnt quite go to plan now did it. I plan a lot of lessons being a teacher and all that but that does not mean I will necessarily deliver all of them. Things crop up that stop our plans happening as we hope they will do.

As we all know Media boy works hard to turn speculation into fact, but as we know that does not always happen for one reason or another. Does that mean we need need to be negative towards him? Correct answer = NO

We really must stop being so opinionated over what is fact/speculation/fiction. Lets just wait and see and above all be patient. There is nothing like a surprise.

Happy new year all by the way.

I am somewhat surprised that a Beano reader has the audacity to express such opinions - It is a well known fact that ALL right minded people favour the Dandy - To have read the Beno one is a mistake, to confess to it is tragic, to then read it a second time is boardering on criminality !!!! ;)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Sorry to be a whinger, BUT why the hell can't VM broadcast radio or TV station carry stations for listeners, that are not in the area, ie North stations to be heard in the South, like on Sky, l can watch and listen to any station there is. My family come from Scotland but cannot listen to Scottish stations as she has only VM.

This was the report of techwatch :

The long awaited roll out of Nagra 3 by Virgin Media to encrypt their cable services has begun, with Leeds being the first area of the UK to be upgraded to the new system.

According to unconfirmed reports, it will be rolled out across the South of England over January, the Midlands by February, and the North West of England by March. By Easter, all of Virgin Media’s cable services should be running with Nagra 3 encryption.

This will make it virtually impossible for anyone to view premium cable channels broadcast by Virgin Media except by legitimate paid subscribers, resulting in a serious blow to existing cable pirates.

The news has long been expected, after Nagra 3 was rolled out in the Republic of Ireland earlier this year, and hardware upgrades to allow for it to be rolled out in the UK have been sent out through 2009.

While cable pirates will no doubt be disappointed that their favourite premium cable channels will no longer be available for free, Virgin are offering two months free upgrade on their TV services to new and existing customers.

If cable services are no longer wanted, then Sky has been providing special offers on Sky + and Sky HD for the Christmas season to bring in subscribers to premium channels.

Of course, there are also options to use Freeview, Freesat, or even use satellite equipment to explore the range of Free To Air (FTA) channels, which do not require subscription services.

In the meantime, when approached by Techwatch for comment, a Virgin Media spokesperson replied “We do not comment on security issues.”
