What would make you happy... (TV Wishlist)

This year, what one thing would make you happy that Virgin did?
(Regarding TV)

Feel free to discuss whatever, whether it can be done or not :D

For me it would have to be that they got more HD channels they are very few and far between at the moment :( would also be nice if they dropped the price of having all the Sky Sports channels as well :D

Re: What would make you happy...

I second more HD, in particular I would like to see the Sky PAY TV saga end with any result that would mean I get the full package at whatever the cost. Namely red button and HD channels. I would be happy to continue paying for the lot if I got the lot.

Here's hoping anyway.

I'd like to see the Virgin 1 channel become even better. They need another top program to replace Sarah Conner now that it's been canned. Virgin 1 HD would be good as well.

I think Virgin need to expand the network of cables though. They should look around the area's that have cable and see if they can move across the road to the people who at the moment can't get cable.

+1
I know an estate that would like cable as they cannot get Sky either for some strange reason in an area by me.

World peace.....

Oh you mean with Virgin, More HD channels would be nice the Sky ones and all the others. And hopefully not to expensive. I don't mind paying for more HD channels as long as they are a reasonable price. Also would like the V+ software to be updated with something a bit more responsive.

Happy New Year to all

for me has to be allowing you to use Sony Bravia Cable tuning by allowing you to purchase cams from virgin.

Or doing a deal so virgin tv service is capable to run on PlayTV sonys ps3 Tv addon - Although that would mean sony change it to incorporate Dvb-C

The BIG one though Virgin anounce DVB-C2 been installed and finished we get shiny new boxes to run Mpg4.

That Catch included everysingle programme and included the films, absolute everything that channel transmits and it be 14 days to cover people who go on holiday.

Vod had every programme ever seen the light of transmission. There is loads of programmes would love to see which never get re-aired. Also virgin stop missing episodes infact put them all up for that series.

I still want to see the finale of the invaders sadly uk never shown the 2 part 90's mini series which had roy thinnes in as a cameo role as the invaders returned. I have only known about this since I got the complete boxset of the 60's show and people was disapointed the 90's one was omitted.

Not asking much but every single one above would be dream come true.

Who would foot the bill and the other television companies would not be happy, cost alone would rule that out.

Get a V+ or even 2 to record any programmes you really cannot miss.:D

Again cost would be the issue here as it would require a hell of a lot of storage space which would cost money, would you be happy to stump up more money for a programme you may have missed while sunning yourself.

More HD content!

It's frustrating to be sitting in front of a 46in Panasonic Plasma costing the best part of a grand and there is hardly any HD content to watch!

To get all non-sky HD channels. Should be simple enough to achieve if VM are serious about HD.

Re: What would make you happy...

As most TVs owned in the UK are now HD (at least, according to The Gadget Show), it seems ridiculous that Virgin still only offer a handful of HD channels. There should be serious efforts made to secure *every* HD channel commercially available in the UK, and to get each new one as it comes on stream on day one. Virgin need to think of HD as the standard, with SD as a relic to be replaced as soon as possible.

I'd also like to see some new, modern PVRs deployed. The current V+ box is so out dated I'd be embarassed if I was running Virgin. They need a box with a modern, slick, responsive HD interface, such as Windows Media Centre in Windows 7.

They will be getting one. Tivo will be supplying the software for future STBs...

Call me a doom & gloom merchant but to replace everyones STB's will cost a bucket load of money. Then to dispose of the old STB's will cost another bucket load.

I think the more likely outcome would be to replace them as and when they go faulty. Seeing as the Tivo link up has only been announced recently I doubt VM have a confirmed plan yet anyway

Depends. If they decide they need to move everyone to MP4 (which would save shed loads of bandwidth that could then be used for extra HD channels, or, with some adjustments, for broadband internet access), they are going to have to change every STB..

VM have largely stopped announcing things long before they are ready to deploy them. Partly because they don't want to be seen to be advertising something that they can not offer, but mostly, I suspect, because they can't afford to give Sky too much of a heads up on their plans.

They are saying that the Tivo powered NG TV system will start to launch by the end of 2010..

I don't see why it would replace just the V+. Tivo have said it's the first time they've been asked to provide software for boxes with no PVR facility. Admittedly, that could mean VM are considering moving to a system where the box appears to have a built in PVR, but the recording and playback is done by systems at the head end, and streamed to the box.

It is software. However, VM are also looking at various other technologies, under the guise of their Next Generation TV system.

what a nightmare that would be.They can not keep VOD up all the time in my experience running a system like that would be fraught with problems

Re: What would make you happy...

More non-HD channels (we seem to have been forgotten), a new menu system, better boxes, more worthwhile on-demand content and full series instead of odd episodes on the on-demand service.

itv hd would be nice intime for the world cup.

Nagra 3 rollout on the entire network with few issues would be a bonus. Virgin 1 to have some decent content, and maybe have that channel in HD on Freeview too. IPTV properly trialled, decent upload to go with the download, the usual. ;)

Agreed! I tried to watch Reading vs Liverpool via VM on 103 (i.e. SD transmission) on my HD TV and it was terrible. I got a better picture online watching a stream from a Spanish site!

Re: What would make you happy...

Well, simply having full series of programmes on TV Choice OD, not starting at episode 10 (I'm talking to you, Babylon 5 series 4) would be a start. Or even worse, only a few episodes of Band of Brothers. Very annoying.

Re: What would make you happy...

A few more hd channels like eurosport for the tour de france.
