Can't receive Emails
Firstly hello to you all:)
I am in the BS32 area of Bristol, a former Telewest customer and its a blueyonder email address. Breifly I can send emails but not receive them, this issue has been going on since the 22nd of October. I have rung the VM helpline on at least 4 occasions now and have been told they know about the fault and it would be fixed by the 27th of November or sooner. Today I rang again and was told there is no fault and I should take my PC to a virgin store and the would fix the problem!!!! WHAT! Also keep trying to send myself a email and it might come back! Thanks to Annie the Indian Lady that gave me that advice but I am not happy. This would be no big deal, but this email address is on all my paperwork and other places where my only point of contact is someone emailing me. Is there any help or advice as to my way forward please? |
Re: Can't receive Emails
What are you using to try retrieving your email? Outlook Express, Outlook, Thunderbird, other?
What error do you get from that program? What 'pop3' server do you have configured in that program? Can you log into your email using webmail? |

I can log in into webmail but that shows no messages either. Its pop3.blueyonder.co.uk It does not show any errors just no messages. HTH and sorry again for posting in the wrong bit of the forum. |
Re: Can't receive Emails
Have you (or someone else) set auto forwarding on the account? Look in Webmail, under settings.
Or is someone else logging into to your account and uploading the mail? |
Re: Can't receive Emails
Blueyonder webmail doesn't have a settings option.

Re: Can't receive Emails
Login to webmail and send yourself an e-mail.
Do you get the mail in your webmail inbox? Do you get any error message? Click options and spam settings, lower your spam settings to "tag header". Send yourself an e-mail again. Did you get the e-mail. This way we can start to find if its a server problem or a OE/software problem. Look forward to you posting back :) |

Re: Can't receive Emails
The fact that you can send an e mail indicates the hardware is fine. Your software is at fault. As the guys suggest, its probably your settings.

I have done all of the above and have received nothing back and no error messages. The emails are showing as sent items though |
Re: Can't receive Emails
Ok time to ring tech support.
Call at 8am you'll be more likely to get a UK agent. |
Re: Can't receive Emails
Sounds like the Username/Alias has an authentication failure and if so will require raising to the IT guys for a resolution.
I had a similar one a few weeks back which did the same appeared to be sending mails which never arrived and also never received any either, and that was virtually identical to this issue. You will need to call Tech Support to get this raised to our IT department. |
Re: Can't receive Emails
Thankyou all for your kindness and help back to tech support in the morning.
I will inform you of the outcome. Just one afterthought I received the following Email from Virgin a while back and I duly rang 151 and was told Ishould never have received it and disregard it and my account was fine! Anything to do with it?----- Original Message ----- From: "Virgin Media" <support@virginmedia.com> To: <support@virginmedia.com> Sent: Friday, September 18, 2009 9:14 AM Subject: Whoops! There's a problem with your email account. Hello At Virgin Media, we're always looking for ways to give you the best you can get from your broadband connection. In a few months' time, we'll be upgrading our email platform, but before we can do that, we need to fix something on your account. Don't worry though. We can sort this out really easily if you give us a quick call. Call us on 0845 454 1111 or call 151 from a Virgin Media phone* before 19th October so we can make sure you don't have any interruptions to your email service. Unfortunately, if we don't hear from you, you won't be able to access your emails after 19th October. But you can still call us after that, until the end of January 2010, and we'll be able to get you up and running again**. Kind regards Mark Davidson Executive Director, Customer Care Virgin Media * For call costs visit our website http://virginmedia.com/callcosts. ** From 31st January 2010, your email account and all emails within it will be permanently deleted. |
Re: Can't receive Emails
Very helpful.
There will be a data mismatch in LDAP. Needs raising to the IT chaps. |
Re: Can't receive Emails
Please would you tell me what LDAP is?
(Bugger now you know I am not technical at all)LOL |
Re: Can't receive Emails
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol
Data is stored there such as your e-mail mailbox, userID, aliases mapped to your mailboxes, modem mac address mapped to your userID & account number etc. Sorry for not explaining I forget to do that a lot  |
Re: Can't receive Emails
Update,Still can't receive email.
Following your advice I rang 150 about this problem bright and early the next morning and got a guy called Danny in Scotland. I advised him of the position as detailed in this thread and xocemp's suggestion about LDAP. This was dismissed as nonsense and whoevertold me this was talking rubbish anyway he had fixed the problem. Sure enough there was an email in my inbox! I said fantastic hang on and I will send myself one and you can send me another one..........Nothing came through* A deflated Danny said he would pass the problem on to IT and if I did not have a working email in 72hours ring again anIT would reset it manually. 72 hours later(10.30am today) I ring again and get Shirley in India. We go through the same pantomime again and I am getting very annoyed but not abusive. Shirley toddles off for 7 minutes and comes back and says she says IT will email me(a good trick thinks I) or phone me. I will also get £10 of my next bill for the inconvienence, also if my email does not work ring again in 48hours. I get a test email* from Cranley,Kevin 01 I send a reply and a test email nothing again and no phone call. * I note in the case of both emails the receiver is shown as ******3481@ blueyonder.co.uk not ****@blueyonder.co.uk which is my email address. What more can I do ? |
Re: Can't receive Emails
You can post on the news groups Paul. The support are second line support so they'll be in a better position to help.

Re: Can't receive Emails
No contact from VM and no emails unless I use ******3481@blueyonder.uk
then it works. Thats what VM have been using to send test mail. I found it works for me also, shame its not my email address though............. ---------- Post added at 22:58 ---------- Previous post was at 21:53 ---------- Thankyou for the edit Rob. An email from spammers would be something though! LOL |

Re: Can't receive Emails
It's possibly the 550 prohibition error that some people are getting, def needs raising to IT.
Paul if you want to PM me your username and your email alias, I'll mail the alias, get the rejection email and forward that to your username, you can then post that in the newsgroups to aid raising to IT. |
Re: Can't receive Emails
moaningmags YHPM
Moldova I tried that and it said invalid user name or password I followed the link and it said my email address was the primary but would not let me enter my pasword which I have been told is correct by VM this week! |
Re: Can't receive Emails
Hi Paul you have a PM
The error is This message was created automatically by mail delivery software. A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed: XXXXXXX@blueyonder.co.uk SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<XXXXX@blueyonder.co.uk>: host smtpin.blueyonder.virginmedia.com [XX.XXX.XXX.XXX]: 550 Administrative prohibition - unable to validate recipient This now needs raising to IT as xocemp said way up there ^^^ |
Re: Can't receive Emails
I will ring VM again on Monday and tell them this and hope they listen to me this time. I don't think my nerves will stand ringing India tomorrow!
I will report the outcome back to the forum. You all have been very kind and helpful Thankyou, Paul |
