Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
I am looking to update the firmware on this router the hardware version is D2 and the firmware 1.0VM.
The links on the D-link site only refer to HW versions B2 and D1. The issue I have is the port forward just on post 80 to simple web server is very slow.... So I thought I had better start with checking the firmware version. Help? |
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
The one I have heard works best is
firmware version 4.11 rev D |
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
Does that work with the VM issued DLinks? H/W: D2, F/W: 1.0VG?
|
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
It should, the VM issued ones have D-Link firmware, no VM firmware at all :)

Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
Just tried flashing with DIR615_v4.11_B02.bin and no brick! So give it a go*
*Disclaimer: If it breaks it is your own fault. Not mine nor any one else. Just Yours. I hope this will fix the random: no ip address issue. |

Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
Nothing noticeable, I was hitting 20Mbps before, and still hitting 20Mbps.
Still getting the random - no IP address issue, which I hoped to cure. |
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
I have recently just upgraded to the 20MB broadband have been given a DIR-615 router. Not sure what has happened but when I try and log into the router it takes me to the "emergency room" to update firmware. from looking at this discussion I have tried the recomended upgrade but this has had no effect it still takes me to the "emergency room". Can anybody advise on how to reslove this issue please as i am out of ideas. A few things I have tried are telnet, web browse and using the CD.

Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
You can flash theses into a 3rd party firmware called DD-WRT

Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
Afternoon all :)
I just tried S77007 files and I managed to get the first file flashed to my router but as from "Change your ip address to 192.168.1.5 or 192.168.1.xxx" I'm completely stuck :( If I change my ip to anything other than what the pc want's to give me automatically I have no access to anything. If I leave it on automatically assign ip then I have internet access but I can no longer get into my router. By that I mean that I just get just an expired page reading or redirected to a search engine explaining that 192.168.0.1 is usually a router address. Any help would be greatly appreciated peeps :) |

If that doesn't work open a command prompt window, type ipconfig /all and press Enter. Look for the "Default Gateway" entry in the list that gets returned. |
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
That worked perfect pal :)
However after giving a username as "admin" and no password for the moment I now get a security box asking for pw username and password. But when I put admin and leave the password box blank I get a 401 Unautherized page and it does the same if I leave both blank too. Maybe I should have stuck to software and not hardware. Lol Any ideas dude? *Edit* Scratch that, I just did a hard reset and all is good. Thankyou Ed2020 for your help :) |
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
You're welcome. Glad your got it sorted. The improvements it brings will make it worth the effort. ;)

Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
For reference, here is the link to the original VM firmware for the D-Link DIR-615 D2 (v1.00VG):

Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
Does anybody know where I can find a DIR-615 rev. D D-Link firmware that will allow me to disable CTS Mode?
|
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
installing ddwrt will give you that option
|
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
DD-WRT didn't cure the problems I was having, so I've gone back to D-Link's firmware to see how that goes for a while.

Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
A new build has been released and is recommended in DD-WRT's router database for the DIR-615 D2. It's build 14311.
http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database I've noticed something odd with build 14311 and the DHCP feature though. I've got my DHCP server to start at a certain range and allow five DHCP addresses with a lease of 720 minutes (12 hours) and the router reboots everyday at 5am, but the last couple of days I've noticed my laptop keeps getting allocated the next address along, even though all previous leases have expired / been released, so for example it was 111.111.1.1 a few days ago, then I noticed it was 111.111.1.2 a couple of days ago and yesterday it was 111.111.1.3. My laptop is the first wireless DHCP device that gets connected to the router when I get in from work. |
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
be careful flashing flashing the DIR-615 to 14311.
I tried this to cure my wireless dropping on my 615 and afterwards it wouldnt allow me at all to connect at N speeds only G speeds. i have posted this fact on the forum and a few others have contacted me with identical issues through the forum. |
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
I have decided for now to stick with this firmware (the original one posted on this forum 13435), the performance has turned out fine and stable. I am a bit concerned about all the poor wireless reports (with all the firmware versions) but luckily the router is directly below my laptop so at least in the short term I will be able to use a fully wired network.

Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
Hi,
i am concerned about me 615 signal range. Router upstairs at the front of my house i get no coverage outside the back of my house, using a USB N dongle. Signal drops a lot when downstairs at the back of my house as well ,only 1 floor down. is there a issue with this router using D2 ? if this thread is not about this issue ,sorry i will put in a new post |
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
this router according to user feedback seems to have poor wireless performance yes.
|
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
Using D-Link firmware I get an excellent signal throughout the entire house with the router's signal strength set to the lowest option, which is 12.5% if I remember correctly. There are multiple wireless G devices on at once too.

Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
Ive got the WRT and Im currently in the garden over 10 meters away (i know this because of the extension lead length) from the router, working fine :)

Hi,
thanks read the link. I take it it's all unofficial so no help from VM if it all goes wrong. No chance of VM updating f/ware D2 in the future ? |
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
Build 14573 is out:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/o...ink-dir615d%2F ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSla...dlink-dir615d/ I haven't tried it yet and don't know what's different to the recommended build 14311. |
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
yeah the guy really needs to document what he is doing.
14311 just hung on me, I started a download and within 2 minutes it stopped routing all net traffic. Rebooted the router and works again. Just a simple single stream ftp download, nothing that should stress the router (not torrents). Now I can verify the startup command I put in also doesnt do its job, I got the red light after the reboot as well. ---------- Post added at 07:13 ---------- Previous post was at 06:25 ---------- Ok I have upgraded and hope now this wont hang, if not netgear time. The red light bug is still there along with the yellow first LED, the red light doesnt come on at boot time tho, it comes on when the wan is connected which would be by coincidence on boot, as I initially thought it was fixed but after I activated the wan the red light came on. The command to fix the LED's is. gpio disable 9; gpio enable 8; gpio disable 12; gpio enable 14 ; gpio disable 11 ; gpio enable 13 ; gpio disable 11 ; gpio enable 11" |

Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
can a kind mod please edit my last post. I missed a "
command should be. "gpio disable 9; gpio enable 8; gpio disable 12; gpio enable 14 ; gpio disable 11 ; gpio enable 13 ; gpio disable 11 ; gpio enable 11" |
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
DD-WRT Update
The folder for build 14473 is now correctly named and 14537 has been released. http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/o...-V24-preSP2%2F |
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
I notice since updating to the latest firmware, websites load MUCH faster than they used to
I was used to a 2-3 second delay before a website would load, including this one, but now it's almost instant. |
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
I'm having the opposite problem and have to click links more than once before they work. This used to happen for me with the builds before 14311, so I will probably revert to this recommended build.
|
Re: Dlink DIR-615 Firmware Update D2
Have upgraded my DIR-615 to build 14594, and run it for the last 48 hours, no problems experienced either via LAN or wireless. All lights showing the correct colours. Wireless N throughput is better in my views than some earlier builds. And no having to click on links more than once, although I've never suffered from that.
