PC Guard & Windows 7 Compatibility

Tried to download PC Guard from the VM website after installing Windows 7 only to be told "Your operating system or browser is not supported"

I know Windows 7 is brand new and it might not be supported straight away, but does anyone know if it is in the pipeline?

Thanks.

There is far better free software around than PC Guard in my opinion anyway

Re: PC Guard & Windows 7 Compatibility

I would go with Commodo Free.

That's a sound piece of software, I personally use AVG Free and rely on the Windows 7 Firewall and my router

Commodo seems to be lightyears ahead in my book. Seems to detect alot more, than the likes of AVG etc.

Thank for the replies. I've installed Comodo and it seems good so far. :)

*jumps on bandwagon*

Comodo is really good and a lot easier to set up specific rules than most software I've used

Personally I just use a router and maybe windows firewall if the messages don't **** me off so much. No antivirus or spyware protection. But then I'm a reckless but dashing maverick.

I bet you even leave your hair messy in the mornings and wink at girls in shops! ADMIT IT!!!

meh - I don't think many people keep text files called 'account details and pin numbers' on their computers so it's not such a bad thing to not have AV software etc.

if only someone would write software that stopped people from being able to click on links on e-mails from theprinceofnigeria@needyourhelp.com offering to give you a million billion pounds for helping him in his time of need

=D

Then how would I be able to earn 20% of his fortune?

Re: PC Guard & Windows 7 Compatibility

Download Avira anti virus, currently rated as one of the highest quality AV programs to date and its free.
Also get Spybot search and destroy and "immunize" your PC, and finally use Firefox.

These programs will keep you protected from pretty much anything you find on the internet, if you really want a firewall too, feel free to go for any lightweight one.

Stay away from PC guard because it sucks ass for protection. How do I know this? I am a technician at a PC repair store and we get LOADS of PCs flooded with viruses and they all have PC guard installed.

If you don't want Avira then I can suggest Avast, they are pretty much the most decent and free programs around, AVG isn't really powerful so I don't recommend it.

Well the nag screen only pops up every few days, and its just a simple click off, a worthy advert for such great protection ;) and if you wanted to, its possible to disable the nag screen from appearing.

Oh yes I know there are plenty of techs here! I feel compelled to mention it though because i've been on plenty of forums and seem to have to announce myself in some way before helping hehe

Virgin don't develop PC Guard themselves, they buy it in from a company called Radialpoint, based in Canada. Radialpoint also provide the PC Guard software, unbranded, as 'Freedom', and supply it to at least one of the US cable operators too. Radialpoint recently decided that the effort of writing their own AV software was perhaps wasted, so decided to license Kaspersky.

Kaspersky provide their own product, so in providing the PC Guard software they are effectively opening up an avenue of competition with themselves. If they don't license the ne plus ultra version there's a benefit to their potential customers in "upgrading". Admittedly, the amount that Radialpoint (and then Kaspersky) pocket from a PC Guard installation will probably be quite small - I imagine that the licensing is a block sum rather than a per-user basis, which has the advantage of smoothing the revenue curve. It also opens a new income stream for Kaspersky, in that iirc they don't offer a free product, but at the price that it's watered down to avoid cannibalising their main offering
