Request to update sticky for 50Mb
There is a very useful sticky on this forum telling users the optimum parameters and tolerances for cable modems levels, but these do not appear to bear any resemblance to the figures reported by VM's 50Mb modem.
Could someone with a technical background maybe add a new sticky giving the modem levels for the 50Mb service please? Ta. |
Re: Request to update sticky for 50Mb - Don't hold your breath.....
I'd already requested this around 2 weeks ago in this thread but nobody wanted to help. Shame really as I'm getting very bored of reading "Please can somebody check my levels as I'm only getting 48.3Mb and I should be getting 50Mb when using Azereus".
I guess I'm just fooling myself into believing that people would actually pay attention to the stickies in the first place. Grumble. :( |
Re: Request to update sticky for 50Mb
As stated in that other thread, if the Cable Forum Team is advised of the current information we'd update the sticky thread. I assume therefore nobody has a definitive answer

Re: Request to update sticky for 50Mb
Thanks guys. That'll teach me to search a bit harder before I post. Hopefully, someone who works for VM will let us all know what the values should be for the 50Mb modem sooner or later.:dozey:

Power levels for 50Mb all platforms
Here is a possible Sticky for 50Mb power levels across all platforms
Downstream * Knowsley networks using QAM64 are: -7 to +3 dBmV. * Knowsley networks using QAM256 are: -3 to +7 dBmV. * Langley & Bromley networks using QAM64 are: -10 to 0 dBmV. * Langley & Bromley networks using QAM256 are: -4 to +6 dBmV. Re: Power levels for 50Mb all platforms
Platform doesn't matter mate, just the modulation type. Good post.

Re: Request to update sticky for 50Mb
I've merged the threads to make life easier ;)
So which of you is correct, xocemp or Moldava? Perhaps it's just a typo in terms of the use of "+" or "-" |

Re: Request to update sticky for 50Mb
Put your IP into here http://tools.virginmedia.com/ and click NSlookup then copy the Server IP address and repeat the NSlookup with that IP and it should say the Arpa name which should be either langley or bromley.

That gives in-addr.arpa name = ns1-kno.blueyonder.net. which I'm guessing is Knowsley? I'm a bit surprised by the blueyonder bit, as my area is ex-NTL, but I guess the networks have been chopped around somewhat since VM took over? |

Re: Request to update sticky for 50Mb
Within the ex-ntl areas 20-22 are ex-C&W aka Bromley
24-31 are 'original' ntl aka Langley |
