20 meg? I think not.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/593266395.png
I cant wait until my 12 month poxy contract with nthell is up the company stinks bit time they are throttling anyone who downloads too much they are throttling anyone that uses p2p itsa becoming no fun with nthell any more. 6 months to go then its BT or Talk Talk here I come. |
Re: 20 meg my arse
Both of whom throttle P2P to a virtual standstill at peak times. Enjoy.
Oh and you're not throttled in that speed test. I see bomber_g offered to assist you with the fault, I hope he can help you resolve it. |
Re: 20 meg? I think not.
I know its not throttle it just jumps about a bit high to low within minutes at least with bt ill get it cheaper and get what I pay for NtHell charge me for 20 meg and give me what they feel like giving me.
|
Re: 20 meg? I think not.
You said it yourself - "... someone who downloads too much". I want VM to throttle everyone who swamps my path. It's a brilliant policy!

I cant understand having a fast download speed but then bot being allowed to use it. Its a bit like paying for a new car and then they give you a second hand one because the mileage is too high (but they still charge you for the new one), or paying your water bills ina drought. Ive downgraded my connection to 10 meg as thats all I was getting regularly so no need to moan now really but why dont they just be honest and say look we cant provide you with 20 meg as we oversold it in your area. |

I find the STM period no problem at all altough I do not like it. I can see how it would impact on others during those times. The perfect solution for me is to set my P2P client to limit the up/down stream during those times so I stay within the limits. As you would say "Simples"! |

i would look at other possibilities - get you modem levels here and check yours are ok. do another speedtest whilst connected directly to the modem using a cable and no P2P software or other processes running in the background. once you have exhausted all other ways of diagnosing and repairing your connection speed - ie file a fault ticket! then you may moan :) |

Re: 20 meg? I think not.
Do they look good bad or ok?.
|
Re: 20 meg? I think not.
There is a wider fluctuation than I would expect in your downstream power level, indicating something going on in the VM side of things.
But you'd need to monitor that, say, every 30 seconds for at least 5 minutes to get a proper picture of the fluctuations. As a snapshot individually, they're nominal. (OK) |

Its gets wore and worse anyone reading this be warned DO NOT USE Virginmedia for boradband its used top be good at one time but its just not giving what it says on the box any more. I was paying for 20 meg but was not getting anywhere near it often so i dopwngraded to 10 meg and still I dont get it im thinking of seeing if they still do 2 meg that way ill get what I ask for MAYBE. https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2009/10/38.png https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2009/10/39.png https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2009/10/40.png Could this be due to other people near me downlaoding?. |

Re: 20 meg? I think not.
Of course using Speedtest.net is notoriously inaccurate for VM with just a little time I could make an argument either way
For instance... VM 20 meg is rubbish look https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2009/10/34.png Or VM 20 meg is Brill look https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2009/10/35.png Or even VM 20 meg is not bad look https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2009/10/36.png As you can see all the above teats are within 2 mins of each other |

Tech Support is open 24/7 on 151 from your Virgin Media Phone. It's absolutely free. Or call 0845 454 1111 from any other phone line. |

Re: 20 meg? I think not.
this is something techs hear a lot too
tech - are you sure that there is nothing else using your connection whilst you do this test customer - absolutely positive tech - are you really sure? customer - well, other than my sister on MSN video conferencing with her friends and that illegal movie I'm downloading in the background - no there's nothing using my connection tech - AAaaaarrrgh..... |

Re: 20 meg? I think not.
At 0.25p a minute phoning Virgin help and waiting 30 minutes will cost me £7.50 thats before I get through to them thats £15 an hour to listen to (rubbish) music so what do I do, I get free landline calls but not 0845 where the company makes money out of me calling them.
Yeh guys im really sorry but im that thick that I test using torrents running full and with my router on...............some of us have a little bit of intelligence PLEASE dont put us all in the same class. Ill try and get in touch with Mr Patel at the weekend and see if I can get this sorted. |
Re: 20 meg? I think not.
Do you not have a virgin landline?
That last bit made no sense.. |

Re: 20 meg? I think not.
I put some info inthe little bit of info under my name .
No I dont have a landline from them nor a tv service I had a landline from them a long time ago and it was terribly getting billed for times when the phone should have been free, Im quite happy with freeview so dont need the tv service from virgin. The only service I have is broadband which I have had for about 8 years at one time it was the best in the country and I would have stood tall to tell anyone that but not now especially this year and last I have had nothing but problems. I need to phone cs but when I do so I will be using a mobile phone NOT a virgin mobile which has free minutes but NOT 0845 numbers, I dont see the point in spending £20 a month for a landline when I can get 600 minutes with a mobile contract for the same price. Moldova you get a good deal for a few months then it goes back up to normal price if I consider getting a phone line it certainly wont be with virgin. |

Re: 20 meg? I think not.
Either way..
Few things to do before calling a tech * Check equipment locally etc. * Check cables locally * Try connected direct to the modem and then ring the tech |
