Not looking good... door to the "Balloon" open - 6 year old may have fallen to his death...

Looks like it's losing helium.

We what you do (a bit james bond) get a helicopter with a guy who can jump on to top of the balloon (parachute on their back) and absail down the side and descend the balloon, if thing go wrong before he get to the kid he can chute to safety, and try again.

They're also saying the pure helium could've suffocated him. This is insane.

Pretty much 3 things now;

1. He fell out

2. He was never in it, he's just hiding or something.

3. His dad did this for some messed up publicity.

why are people giving a running commentary on this to others who are watching it (or at least whilst it's live on tv/stream)!?!? there's a kind of irony in it!

Thinking about this, surely a six year old boy would weigh quite a bit and not be light enough for the baloon to take off.

He has been found alive, good news

TBH so do I . We have not heard enough from the parents as to why it was inflated or anything. Publicity stunt or attention seeking perhaps

It appeard earlier that they called the tv station before the police

Apparently the father is a storm chaser who uses the balloons for research purposes.

Child - Because you said that we did this for the show.

It really does look like a publicity stunt and I thought that when the first post went up and then again this morning when they showed the family being interviewed.

It was all a bit to stilted for me to believe it was not a setup.

There's a definite squeaky bum moment at 44 seconds just after the lad said that. Don't know if it was the Mum or Dad but the Mum mumbled something like no, possibly to cover up the noise of the fart.:D

Re: 6 year old reported floating away in helium balloon

Can't you? That pair clearly knew exactly which buttons to push. Anyone who understands how modern news distribution works, and who has the creativity and resources to play to it, is going to suck the media in and get lots of coverage.

Rolling 24-hour news channels don't do analysis very well. Their ideal is a constant stream of sensational live video footage. When they don't have that, a news channel is a very dull place to be, and they know it - so they jump on anything that alleviates the boredom. A big helium balloon with the possibility of a young child trapped under it is exactly the sort of thing they love to point their cameras at.
