Freeview retune what a complete cock up!
Has anyone else read the hundreds of threads on DS & AV forums. People having big problems all over the country. Happiness is having cable or sky.

Re: Freeview retune what a complete cock up!
Worked fine on our 3 TVs in Leeds, all with built in Freeview (but we had a V+ and a STB for backup).

Re: Freeview retune what a complete cock up!
Seems OK for me in Northants.

Re: Freeview retune what a complete cock up!
Lol big fuss over nothing. "Woow...22,000 household affected???!!!" That's only 1% of the households that have freeview, did you know ?
So no, it's not the big a cock up. But we need these cockups to advance in the technological front. I for one would be happy knowing that I need to update my freeview box. What is it? Another 20 quid or so? It's not much. It's one off, it's small and if your box didnt respond well to the retune...it's needed! |
Re: Freeview retune what a complete cock up!
i have duplicate channels
|
Re: Freeview retune what a complete cock up!
Did you add channels or a full re-tune? Duplicate channels after a full re-tune in my experience has meant you can see two transmitters.

Re: Freeview retune what a complete cock up!
Its likely a lot of the problems with IDTV's have been due to missed over-air-downloads in preparation for the split NIT now in use.
I feel sorry for the people in Freeview Lite areas that have lost ITV 3 & 4 to gain CH 5 and ANOTHER +1 channel (ITV2+1). Why not let them keep ITV 3 & 4 and boot CH4+1 onto Mux D instead. |
Re: Freeview retune what a complete cock up!
Moved to Freeview forum.

Re: Freeview retune what a complete cock up!
I have 2 DTVs both of which updated smoothly but I have delayed doing my Recorder as I can't remember how to use it and will have to experiment if I can't find the manual. I know I put it some where safe. https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2016/10/1.gif

Re: Freeview retune what a complete cock up!
What are the reported problems then?
|
Re: Freeview retune what a complete cock up!
I presume the reported problems are that some older boxes and DTVs are unable to be retuned and some boxes (such as my own Philips DTR1500) are difficult to retune.
Incidentally, if anyone has the same problem I did (rescanning the channels didn't pick up the new 5 location), you need to do a factory reset. The procedure for this is not too fiddly.

Re: Freeview retune what a complete cock up!
I recently plugged in the old digibox we had into the aerial and scanned it. Most of the channels were in the 800 bracket, which has prompted me to get an updated model!

Re: Freeview retune what a complete cock up!
I'm on a wildlife forum and have taken people through the whole sticky process of retuning, also had my mother on the phone and talked her through the entire process whilst watching my own freeview box crash three times on me... thankfully, I'm happy to report that 90% of the people I've helped have been ok, some have yet to retune (because of yesterdays little upset) and yes, our box is absolutely fine now. However, I've been telling people that it's GOOD to retune every so often and that it's a good habit to get into as it ensures they're familiar with their equipment. Had one enquiry about aeriels and suggested a splitter working alongside a signal booster (trust me, appropriate for the situation) and it seems that all is well with the world - except for the few that haven't retuned yet but will be doing it over the next day or so.
They're all aware that the retuning hasn't ended yet, but hey, if they're given the right info to do something in good basic non-jargonese, they can get through it... and thats good enough for me :D edit: just had a report from someone retuning their TV instead of their freeview box.... hopefully, I've got them going in the right direction now :D |
Re: Freeview retune what a complete cock up!
Had to re-tune 1 box a PVR & a DTV no problems at all.Thinking about it they all seemed fine before I re-tuned them. I am sure if I really looked hard I would find the reason to bother. But as I said no problems & it all took 5 mintues to set the ball( so to speak ) rolling.

http://safemanuals.com/ I still haven't done my recorder yet but did find the manual so I will keep my fingers crossed that missing any updates over the last few months hasn't made it impossible to do this re-tune. |
Re: Freeview retune what a complete cock up!
Ive got a 2yo panasonic telly with freeview and a sagem pvr with another telly. No itv4 now on any. Are they lost forever on freeview. Nothing to do with quality of aerial?

Re: Freeview retune what a complete cock up!
ITV3 and ITV4 have only vanished for those poeple in certain areas, it's not anything to do with the equipment but instead the capacit of the transmitters

Re: Freeview retune what a complete cock up!
I have retuned my Sony TV and DVD Recorder and both will only pick up 44 services out of a possible 101...yet my Uncle who has a different area can pick up everything. Strange...
