ebay seller disputes my item
So, i recently sold an item to the tune of £200+ on ebay, fully working, boxed securely and sent by special delivery.
Buyer has had the item since Tuesday and on Saturday decided to e-mail me claiming the item was faulty, it apparently didn't work, although i know it does as i have a screen shot and date showing the item in use. The buyer has started a dispute with e-bay and escalated it to pay-pal almost immediately, at which point i disputed the claim. So what happens now? What do you think my chances are of coming out of this with my reputation intact? I've heard a lot of BS regarding paypal always going in the buyers favour regardless of evidence and what not, so im unsure as to how to proceed. Indeed the buyer could just smash it with a hammer and send it to me back. |

Re: ebay seller disputes my item
Paypal hardly ever sides with the buyer, so I'd imagine you're safe

Re: ebay seller disputes my item
Paypal did side with me when i bought what was listed as a brand new desktop clothes drier 3 years ago.
When it came the box had been opened and resealed, in the box what looked like ash from a bonfire, the drier had hand prints all over it and was dented on one side. I emailed the seller and he said "They get tested at their warehouse" i said funny that because on ur item on ebay it says shipped directly from manufacturer to buyer. |
Re: ebay seller disputes my item
It's all good when justice takes it's course, like in your case. I hear that the buyer usually gets the decision regardless, or at least, I've heard that in a lot of them when looking on the net. As im the seller, i'm not too confident at the moment as i potentially risk getting my item back damaged and being forced to refund this tool the money.

Re: ebay seller disputes my item
I decided yesterday never to sell anything on Ebay again. Basically IIRC Ebay bought out paypal a couple of years ago so is the same company and as a seller you not only pay ebay commission on sold goods but you also pay a commission on money sent to you via paypal. I see this as being screwed twice by the same company and I aint having that.
Anyway as a buyer I had a claim settled in my favour but I hope you come out of this ok |
Re: ebay seller disputes my item
I have always called it E.Scam.
There are the genuine sellers on there but there are far more scamers than genuine sellers. Hope you get it sorted. |
Re: ebay seller disputes my item
I bought a "brand new, sealed and guaranteed" rechargeable drill on ebay.
A few days later I tried to use it there was a loud squeal from the trigger area, and it stopped dead. I tried to contact the seller, but the listing for that item had disappeared. I did manage to contact him using a listing for another of his sales, but he kept on insisting that the item number, paypal transaction number, etc., were all invalid. Eventually he accepted he had sold me the item and said he was refferring me to his "accounts department". Since then silence. Ebay and paypal were no help as the ebay listing had been removed. |
Re: ebay seller disputes my item
It seems that the Bay, like with almost everything else nowadays, has become corrupted. Great idea when it started, but as with everything that works on trust (buyer/seller), there will always be people who abuse it. If you want a good example - just look at some of our MP's! :)
p.s. - hope it works out in your favour |
Re: ebay seller disputes my item
I'm in dispute at the moment as a buyer but I think I maybe in with a chance because the seller has stopped trading and the feedback they have had since I bid for the item 5 weeks ago has all turned negative.
We will see. |

Paypal say they dont accept photographic evidence, so how the heck are they supposed to come to a conclusion regarding who wins the claim?

Re: ebay seller disputes my item
There's alot of this going around lately, the same happened to a friend of mine, which is why I won't spend more than £20 on ebay (or e.scam as Sirius calls it [i'm inclined to agree at the moment])

Re: ebay seller disputes my item
Did you know that on certain high priced electrical items items Paypal hang on to the funds until the buyer leaves feedback? Then they release the money to the seller.

Re: ebay seller disputes my item
Detest it. Got scammed on a phone several years back (before they had the 100% refund thing in place) and lost about £40. I ended up getting phone calls/Emails from some police woman who was doing a case against a well know fraudster. She wanted me to go to court as part of her case on Boxing Day! Like hell.
He got done for several years as it turned out. Never used it since, someone asked me to grab a phone and I said no a dozen times then gave in, another scam! This time I didn't give benefit of the doubt, went mad at them and got all my cash back. Would rather buy pegs off Papa Lazarou than ever use that place again. In my opinion, if that item isn't reported faulty the day it arrives, then it isn't, you can't wait a week and then say that. If you have some pics (smart move) then get them sent to the buyer/ebay/PayPal and say you aren't having it. |
Re: ebay seller disputes my item
I bought two mobile phones on ebay last week, no issues at all. One of the sellers rang me a few days later to make sure I had received it okay.

Re: ebay seller disputes my item
Well so far I've only had this one issue and least it's not a lot of money..and I'm not alone. He's had about 50 negative feedback since because he's not actually delivering any goods.

When I was helping a friend, who sold on ebay, the problem was chargebacks by the banks, eg: an order was sent by recorded delivery, a few weeks later ebay/paypal said the buyer claimed he never ordered or received any goods even though we had proof that a signature had been obtained at the address. The result was the bank refunded his money and ebay/paypal simply took the money back from the seller, it never even giot to a dispute. These chargebacks happened quite a few times, so in my opinion the seller is always on a loser either from the banks, ebay or paypal. On the other hand as a buyer I've only had one duff item which was replaced pronto. |
