My free gift from Virgin Media :)

I have fixed line and broadband services through VM.

I received a letter from them today titled 'saying thank you, the Virgin Media way

The letter then went on to say that 'actions speak louder than words, and to say 'thanks for being such a brilliant customer' they would like offer me a value packed mobile deal for just £8.50 a month!!!!

What kind of a thank you is that? How on earth can can you thank me for being such a great customer by inviting me to set up yet another direct debit with you? What a cheek this is! It's a feeble attempt at marketing one of their mobile deals.

The letter then went on to say 'think of it as a thank you, from us to you' Signed Mark Davidson, Executive Director of Customer Care.

Well, Mark, please accept my middle finger as a gift from me to you.

What do you guys make of this marketing fail? Yes the deal is probably cheaper than elsewhere, and good if you are currently looking for a new contract - but what a cheek to send it masked as a big soppy thank you for the £60 I put in Mr. Virgin's pocket each month.

Does anyone have this Mark Davidsons office address? I want to send him a chocolate bar to show him what a gift really is....perhaps with a note saying:

You are such a great Executive Director, and to show my gratitude I'd like you to send me £5 each month for the next year....

Anything I recieve from VM gets instantly shredded so I never see any of their PR/Marketing.

The same goes for the rest of the rain forest that is pushed through my letter box seemingly daily.

What a waste of resources all this junk mail is. Why is it still allowed.

Also the £8.50/month tarrif is available to any current VM customer regardless of length of service, services, etc. Just to make you feel that bit more special.

My free gift to all you folks is the link to the Mail preference service, who completely FREE OF CHARGE! Will help you stop unwanted mailings, unfortunately they don't give you a chocolate bar for your custom or anything like that! ;)

MPS is great, but as this thread was started by a VM customer of eight years, he will need to contact VM if he wants marketing mail stopped in this case. :)

Talking about insincere posts from utility companies my favorite was when I ditched BT for a VM phone line, about two months later I received a card with a bed of flowers on it and my name spelt out in flowers in the middle:)
Upon opening it it read, "We miss you Mr B***** and we want you back", it continued saying we may have made mistakes for which we are sorry, it read like a letter from a jilted boy/girlfriend:D:
I can't help wondering which suit thought this a good way of recovering lost customers.
As far as I'm aware BT are still pining over our lost relationship.:D:

I enjoy getting VM's mailshots, I find their continually optimistic and jolly phrasing of even the most mundane product updates and releases uplifting. They could announce World War Three and make it sound like a really good idea.

I have been subscribed for many many years from when I first heard about them and I registered by snailmail, but that would not stop any mailshots from a company that I get a product from sending rubbish to me.

When I first read that we miss you bit, I thought they were calling the marital status of your parents in to question.. I was thinking that's a fine way to get business back..

Totally agree. We are are all hammered daily about recycling this and that.
How about not "cycling" it in the first place?

My paper recycling bin is in the hall next to the door so I don't even have to move it too far.
