Wimbledon 2009

Is starting soon and Nadal is out.

Can Murray do it this year or has he put too much pressure on himself by winning Queen's?

Kymmy 19-06-2009 21:16

Re: Wimbledon 2009

I think the usual "British support" expectation will effect him more than the pressure of winning Queen's"

In the mean time whilst we wait here's something to get people in the mood :)

Re: Wimbledon 2009

I think he's probably adapted to the expectation due to his world ranking. Winning Queen's though will have put the focus on recent events...

Shadow Demon UK 19-06-2009 21:59

Re: Wimbledon 2009

He seems to handle the pressure of being the only decent British player really well, so i don't think it will affect him too much. Nadal pulling out has given him a real chance of getting to the final, probably more so than any British player for some time. I reckon he'll get to the final and lose to Federer.

lauzjp 20-06-2009 09:24

Re: Wimbledon 2009

I hope he does well, but in the tradition, he will probably get a little niggle of an injury and then that will be a convinient excuse as to why he flunks out in the semi's (if he's lucky). :p:

I'd much rather just be entertained watching the old guys play. The Red button was made for tennis!

So people actually watch tennis for the tennis? I always thought it was just for the gorgeous girls. :D

Mind you, Steffi Graf was both gorgeous and entertaining; watching her (years ago, while I was still living at home and had access to a TV), I admit I actually watched her matches as well as those long, lovely legs...:D

Did you see her & hubby Andre Agassi playing at Wimbledon recently? omg, they are still soooo cute together. :)

I just dont like the bloke... His attitude , his statements about the english in the past.

I just dont subscribe to the giddyness that he entails , or the "its his year" we get every darn time . Its worse than it was with Henman and i didnt think that was possible

Still , each to their own m8

On behalf of all my countrymen and women I'd like to apologise for not immediately recognizing the tremendous achievement of winning a World Cup thanks to a Russian linesman with dodgy eyesight. ;)

I assume the comments relate to his "I support Scotland and anyone playing England" remarks which have nothing whatsoever to do with tennis or has he made some other remark advocating the death penalty for anyone sounding a bit cockney?

He looks way more a likely Grand Slam winner than Henman ever did. Murray just went flat out through the first and now he's just doing enough to hold serve and get the break he needs in the others. Why do anything else, it is a bit pointless to go flat out when you're through.

I remember certain Henman games in the early rounds where they were anything but comfortable - Michel Kratochvil?

Here's the context of those 3 year old remarks Link
'Henman said: "The whole thing was ridiculous and in a way it was my fault - we were walking to the interview and I was joking with him because it was a World Cup year.
"I said, 'What are you going to do? It must be a nightmare because Scotland never qualify for anything.Your rugby has gone downhill, you don't have your own team in the Olympics - you might as well go on holiday for a couple of weeks'.
"It was all good fun and good banter. Andy was laughing and hitting back. He said, 'I don't care - I'll just support anyone who is playing England!' The journalist was with us as we were walking to do the interview and we then did a 45-minute interview and football, England-Scotland, was never even mentioned. But the next day's headline was, 'I'll support anyone playing England'.
"It was an absolute stitch-up and it was very disappointing'

His serving has improved massively since last year, if he continues to get his first serve in like he did today, i can't see him dropping too many service games. Just five unforced errors is pretty good as well...

Mind she;s far from the only one.... Such as Venus Williams who only does it to put the other player off.. Notice how she only squeals when she's losing or down slightly.

Last match she played when she mullered the other girl she didnt do it at all

Cheating springs to mind

It shouldn't have done, if anything it should have helped it because there would have been no wind. He needs to improve his serve if wants to go all the way, his serving was really bad tonight.

Didn't seem to affect the other guys serve too much. We need to remember it's going to be the same for both players not matter what the conditions are. I support the guy but it's a poor excuse for serving badly imo.

She plays for GB but she was born in Australia... still, I'm not complaining because she's good.

I found this article that seems to confirm what I've always suspected, that center court is allocated not necessarily on skill and seeding but on physical good looks. also. Hardly fair to the better but not so good looking players being consigned to an outer court, whilst some rank fifty bimbo dances round center court flashing her knickers to a half filled court.

Well done, Mr Murray - convincing win.

7-5, 6-3, 6-2

Its good to see a Brit winning for once at Wimbledon, but would it hurt Murray to maybe just smile once in a while?
Whenever he is interviewed he has absolutely nothing about him, except that is a complete lack of charisma, I remember he's mother jokingly saying a couple of years back that he was a "typical sullen teenager"...well he isn't a teenager anymore.
To see his brother before the cameras you wouldn't believe that they were related, far more courteous and polite, if he really is going to be a tennis great it would certainly help him financially to try and project a positive persona not this hang-dog attitude he currently has.
He certainly isn't an easy guy to like or for that matter root for.

Well now, Murray v Roddick... Not sure if Roddick's back on form, looked like Hewitt was forcing himself back into the game at one point...

If it's anything though to go by I think it'll be one of the best games of the tournament and probably even better than the final

Think Roddick's serve will be a bit more difficult to punish than Ferrero's so will be a sterner test for him...
