Virgin Media Entertainment

A friend of a friend works for VM. He told my mate that Virgin have set up a company in Luxembourg (called VM entertainment - he thinks) to handle all the premium channels. There'll be no change from the viewers point of view (except it may appear differently on bill) but it saves VM a fortune in tax. Apparently they intend to invest the savings in HD provision. Can anybody substantiate this?

Not really. VM are entitled to structure their business in the most tax efficient way.

Well I suppose the answer to my original post has been provided by the number of HD channels we now have compared to 3 years ago..... the old days when Tivo wasn't even a rumour....

We must bump this again in May 2015 to remind us how VM are progressing.

Although, would anyone notice if you (or anyone for that matter) secretly wiped Luxembourg of the face of the globe? Just don't tell anybody that I thought it a wise idea. I mean, I mean them no harm. Can't really do the hahaha laugh :D

I am of an age when, as a teenager, the ONLY way to listen to pop music on the radio was from Radio Luxembourg which broadcast in English in the evenings. After that came the pirate radio ships like Radio Caroline.

Only the BBC were allowed to broadcast in the UK. Their stations were the Light Programme, the Third Programme and the Home Service. Virtually no pop music on any of them.

The government did all they could to keep it that way and get the pirate ships off air. Eventually, public opinion got Radio 1 started.

Does Radio Luxembourg still broadcast?

I need to record some of the "Montalbano" episodes for an Italian friend. I have virgin TiVo, and a DVD/VHS combi recorder. Any chance?

Re: Virgin Media Entertainment

Only if you have some blank VHS tapes. The DVD part of the combi will be playback only I would imagine.

I have a Toshiba & it will burn to DVD, however I have never tried to do this via the Tivo. Did with the V+ that was very easy just follow the screens. Any one tried via TiVo?:D

I use a capture card but the principle is the same. It works fine but obviously the quality is less than outstanding. You just have to watch as it records because of the lack of a separate archiving scart. I invested in a 3D Fury to get better quality :D

The Royal Ruler - Tony Prince, I loved it, I still remember the day Elvis died and Tony played his records all day, he had to talk a couple of girls out of topping themselves too, on air.

Did you see the movie "the Boat that Rocked" that was sort of based on the pirate radio ships and government response to them?
