NTL Cable Modem & Belkin N150

I have recently just bought a Belkin N150 router, The desired setup i am after is NTL Cable Modem > Belkin N150 > PC & Xbox, using ethernet leads. This is the order i am powering up the devices aswell.

However when i connect anything to the ethernet port on my modem i do not get any connection, i have tried a pc and xbox and neither work and the ENET light on the modem does not light up.

My connection works fine when i reconnect via the USB.

I am finding that if i connect a device to the modems ethernet port with the USB connection working the ENET light will come on, however as expected this still wont give me a connection but the light comes on all the same.

Any ideas as to how get this up and working?

Cheers for any help.

Ive just tried again and left the cable modem off for a good 10 mins. when it boots up i have the ethernet lead connected, however the USB light flashes a few times then goes off.

Only the ethernet, or the USB connection can be used, not both at the same time. You do need to be unplugging USB when connecting to the router ethernet, and then rebooting the modem.

yes i know you cant have the USB and ethernet connected at the same time. i unplug the USB, power down the modem, connect the ethernet then power up. however the the ethernet doesnt give me any connectivity

Are you powering up the modem before powering up your router and then powering up the PC? Let the modem & router indicator lights settle before powering on the next in the chain. I have a Belkin N150 & connect via a VM SACM with no problems...

It might not be the ethernet but instead the DHCP...

Does the ethernet connect when the PC's connected directly to the modem and then try to get an IP address?? If it does then please post the IP it eventually gets (just the first three please)

Re: NTL Cable Modem & Belkin N150

The Modem is an NTL Home 120.

When i directly connect the ethernet from the modem to the PC the ENET light on the modem comes on. The network icon on the bottom right of my screen says connected to local and internet however i still cant load up a webpage.

When i check the ip address the information i get is:

IPv4 IP Address: 82.16.185.xx

the DHCP server is 62.254.35.13

With that IP the modem is working fine through the ethernet.. Check your internet explorer settings

(Why am I getting a sense of Deja'vu here????)

Re: NTL Cable Modem & Belkin N150

foxy could you give me the full model number of the belkin router you got it starts with F5D**** and you can find it on the bottom of your unit. I have a funny feeling that you might've bought a modem/router instead of a router.

if the number starts with F5D*6** then its a modem/router if its f5d*2** then you got a standard router.

Either way it wouldn't cause the no-browsing option with it not connected

It sounds more like the issue in this thread

The Model number is slightly different than what your asking for: F6D4230-4 v1

Re: NTL Cable Modem & Belkin N150

okay...that is a router....... http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=480884

connect your pc to it and browse to http://192.168.2.1 and give the router a full factory reset, then connect the modem to it and see if it works then.

The modem you had is rubbish, I had similar problems when I changed from using the usb to the ethernet.
My modems ethernet light would also not come on & I mentioned the problem to the IT guy at work. He told me the ethernet port on these modems was problematic (he had the same one at home) & that if you wriggle the ethernet cable up & down the light will come on, he was right.
I had to jam a piece of card into the port which forced the cables contacts up against the ports contacts. I know of two other people who had the same bother, the best thing is to do what you did & get a new modem.

Hi

Same problem - Belkin replaced my router for a new more expensive N150+ which worked fine out of the box and has USB port to connect a USB hard drive on the LAN
