what do all these mean, and should I do some sort of scan, and with what (preferably free!) ?

You'll probably find that they are all legit things that windows bloatware has running in the background, doing nothing but eating memory (hence why you need so much of it) on the offchance that you might start up some program a millisecond faster.

I usually get out :google: if I'm unsure of anything and see the PC misbehaving.

They all look like normal processes to me.
Some you don't need, but you have to decide which ones you don't need running.

Neither is mine enabled but i still got a whole heap o the damn things:)

You mean i went to all the hassle of opening a whole virtual machine(well,hitting ATL-F2 and typing vi......then clicking Start in virtualbox) but you didn`t even check your task manager....You lazy sod.:p:

And i thought reversing down the road to the shops was bad.:rolleyes:

EDIT:i`m now waiting on you telling me about the shiney Mac you probably use rather than Windows...eek

Pah, i use Windows XP + Windows 7. I was just too lazy to press Ctrl + Shift + Esc...

If you right click your taskbar task manager is there easier than keyboard shortcuts
