Re: Pc case custom design
£200  that's a lot of money to pay when the computer won't go any faster for it. It could end up a sheep in wolf's clothing :p:

Re: Pc case custom design
buy yourself a dremel multi tool and a few sheets of aluminum to practice on and do it yourself

Re: Pc case custom design
In the case (geddit :D ) of the first one, I suppose if something is worth doing, it's worth doing well :) It's no good though if it can't move around the room :p:

Thats a wicked case. Must cost the guy about £800+ easy! £200 is nowt really for a custom case escpecially if its to last years, its mainly the hours on the cnc Machine that hike the prices up. Anyhows, for mine ive now decided im going to make it out of MDF, & perspex. why ? 1, cost 2.The Effect in the dark with the perspex. 3. cheaper and easier to correct if there is a problem :) Bling side of the case, will be to house 8 x 120MM watercooled rad's & 4 pumps, along with 4 resivoirs,. 4 individual loops. 1 x cpu, 1 for each gfx card, and 1 for the chipset. It will also house 1 x 200mm fans, & 1 x 120mm front fan, 1 x 120 mm rear fan. Big fans = less rpm but more airflow = Less noise. Storage side. will allow upto 4 x 3.5 inch drives as well as space for 4 x ssd drives. wont not use floopy or 5 n half inch drive. Will also wire in a few little gadgets & tricks, maybe a usb cup warmer to for those long gaming nights lol :D, will wire in switches to turn lights on/off, pumps on /off, and of course the pc. The main thing im thinking of is what shape to make it  Most people just go out buy a case mod it, n then they all more or less look the same. Im thinking of making it look like a cube, as that way it can sit in the bedroom / living room tucked in teh corner not looking out of place. Im going to have a word with a local school , they have a cnc machine, its jsut how much they will charge :erm: Ill keep all posted :D - When ive drawn it up ill post a pic or 2. |
Re: Pc case custom design
sorry but i thought you said a single loop for each gpu, if you are going to do that are you heavily overclocking them?
i'm running my 2 gtx280's on a single loop with a dual radiator which is a swiftech kit, and the temps on them never go above 60c then i also run a xspc kit for my q9450 @3.6hz and, the chipset and those temps are fine cpu never above 40c and chipset never above 60c just thinking it might be cheaper for you unless you already have the kit just to use the 1 loop for gpu's and 1 for cpu and chipset. |
Re: Pc case custom design
Why build a custom case and shove it in a corner? Surely you want all to see it. My case is just a regular Thermaltake Armor with the 250mm side fan, after 2 years it still sits proudly on my desk so everyone can see it and they are still amazed at the size of it compared to regular towers. :O

Re: Pc case custom design
that side fan is a total waste of time ;) The Armor case was better without it ( I had one)

Re: Pc case custom design
I wouldn't use MDF for a custom case... its a fire hazard :) MDF likes to burn... Stick with steel/aluminium :)

Re: Pc case custom design
I bought the Thermaltake Khandalf, excellent case with liquid cooling looks very good day or night, got to agree with haydn about the mdf fire hazard, thats got to be a definate no

cpu wise n chipset, cpu speed im on 4ghz atm, at approx 43c idle, never seen how hot it gets with testing / gaming. chipset, well why not lol, But may consider keeping them on same loop if they dont get to hot. Ill have to do some research on temps for the dfi board. ---------- Post added at 14:57 ---------- Previous post was at 14:56 ---------- Quote:

seeing as more and more people are doing it nowadays I would assume it safe.. I hope :D only one way to find out lol. |
Re: Pc case custom design
MDF is basically compressed sawdust (with a few chemicals added in for good measure)
If you MUST use MDF - use the Red coloured MDF as its Fire Retardant. Remember - Wood is an insulator and will contain heat, as opposed to Alu/Steel which are radiators and disipate any heat. Usually why PCs are made in steel/alu cases :P ---------- Post added at 16:05 ---------- Previous post was at 16:03 ---------- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium-density_fiberboard |
Re: Pc case custom design
well the only MAIN reason for using MDF is that its cheaper by miles.
Ive also spoken to the school today and they want £25PH :shocked:for use of their cnc machine, which will only do Wood and perspex upto 1 inch thick. If all companys will charge this then id sooner stick with my antec case. :( |

Re: Pc case custom design
I worked in a toolroom on all sorts of stuff mate and if you're only cutting thin gauge aluminium or steel then you need to look at wire erosion or even laser cutting, if you put thin gauge stuff on a cnc miller they'll have a bugger of a time holding it down and the finish will more than likely be rough as the sheet will be vibrating. I'd say wire erosion would be your best bet and it'll more than likely be cheaper than laser cutting. Couldnt tell you what costs would be like though, but as you arent working to a size that would need to be measured and made that accurately, unlike if you were making a press tool then the cutout could be done in one run.
Dont forget its not just time on the machine, it'll have to be programmed for your shape so that time will have to be taken into account too. With work the way it is now I'd have thought they'd have taken any work on, just google for wire erosion services in your area. But heres one to get you started http://www.wmccm.co.uk/WMCCM/WMCCM/C...=17&tabindex=4 |
Re: Pc case custom design
I run a CNC and do a lot of the programming, but for intricate designs I could get one of our designers to do something in solid works & genio. So I could get the milling of the board done for you including supply of the MDF, if you want to email me with aprox sizes and rough design we could take it from there.
As for price we do charge £65ph but I would do this in my own time, our company doesnt mind the use of machines for personal use. Besides you can get a hell of a lot done in an hour, the longest amount of time would be the programming. LMK if your intrested im my offer of help. |
Re: Pc case custom design
that be cool that, cheers Alf,
Well ive got a week off so i will finish designing what has to be finished n then ill PM ya with details etc :) :D i see ur in mansfield :) not that far from cov at all, , well M42, M1 :P |
