360 hdmi port?

Hi all :)

I bought an hdmi to hdmi cable so i can hook up my 360 to my pc monitor.
I got it today this 1.
http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-.../Product.html#
It clearly states that it works on a 360.
Any ideas why it will not fit???
I'm stumped, it fits in thew back of my monitor but not the 360?
Weird.

Re: 360 hdmi port?

By the sounds of it your xbox 360 doesn't have a hdmi port just an old AV port so that will be why, the same as mine did have until got one with hdmi port on it. The older 360's only had AV ports the newer versions have both.

Re: 360 hdmi port?

As smee says you might not have the HDMI port on the back of your Xbox 360 which you would find underneath the main connector.

If yours doesn't have this then you could get the Xbox 360 VGA cable if your TV/monitor supports this. This will then give you the same benefits as the HDMI including allowing the viewing of upscaled DVDs.

Thanks mate, that looks like my best bet :)
Will it play everything at 1080i?

I think but not 100% that it plays them in 720p thats if your talking about DVD's but will run 1080p with games.

Re: 360 hdmi port?

They should let us get the converter for free in some way?
You would of thought they would of made all the early 360s hmdi compatable if hdmi technology was avalable when the 360 1st started shipping?

On my Sony TV it does 1080p so yes it should do if your monitor supports it using VGA. You will need the phono connections on your monitor or you wont have sound though.

I get upscaled DVds to 1080p and games with that cable. :)

Re: 360 hdmi port?

Didnt think it upscaled normal dvds that much.

It's also related to the TV and what its VGA port is capable of. :)

Re: 360 hdmi port?

Is there a cheap scart to dvi converter what will work so i put me 360 on my monitor?
To hook the standard 360 cable to my monitor?
I just want it on my monitor for a better picture as i can hardly read text on my tv when my 360 is on.
Picture ain't all that either.

Won't the sound parts of the cable be built into this?
http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-.../Product.html#
I would of thought so, as i haven't any sound input parts on my monitor?

It's built into the 2 phono connectors on the cable, which you need to plug in somewhere as a standard VGA cable doesn't carry sound. Maybe you can get some sort of VGA to DVI adaptor to make it all work.

I've just checked the back of my monitor and it has a small green hole for sound?
Only 1 though, do you think this will be it so i have sound?

This is my monitor btw.

You will need to buy an adaptor for that then i'm sure itll work. :)

Maybe this is what you need? You just need to make sure you get one with the right size single pin for the monitor.

Link or maybe 1 of these. Link

They have lots of different adaptors there so you should find 1. I suspect itll be the 3.5mm jack link i added to my post that'll be the 1 you need.

Re: 360 hdmi port?

Are you sure its the right adaptor size? I thought small green hole on back of the monitor meant it uses a 3.5mm jack? and then this would fit it.

Re: 360 hdmi port?

Just got these 2 cables today, wow, to say my 360 picture is clearer now is a damn understatement, for some reason i can't change the widescreen setting?
Just has me on wide-screen, but i put it at res 1680x1050 and everything is crystal clear, look's great.
But why can't i choose 1080i?
My monitor supports this but i think it is because i don't have an hdmi cable isn't it?

I'm not sure, but i can get 1080p on my Sony TV using the official VGA cable.

Why would you want to run 1080i? In terms of quality, it actually has less resolution than 720p

I don't know, just thought it was better, anyway I'm very happy with how It's turned out allthough the screen has gone smaller for some reason?
Maybe It's the widescree which i can't change to normal for some reason?
Anyway....
I have another question this time about flashing the dvd drive....

I've been trying to repair my m8s 3 red ring error, it couldn't be done, well i couldn't anyway.
So i have his open now and his has already been flashed before.
On his dvd drive is says he has firmware ms25, which according to the guides is the easier 1 to flash.
So now as my m8 won't be using his I'm going to ask him if i can have his dvd drive and let him have my unflashed 1.
But on the outside of the dvd drivethe guy who flashed it left markings on the outside which say....
re-flash-s25 (or 525) -x53c????
what are these does any1 now?
Will it be best to re-flash the drive again with a different newer firmware?

Thanks Smile

That's a borderline question for this forum, you're better off looking at xbox-scene.com.

I have to disagree, I just upgraded to a 37" 1080p LCD TV and everything looks a lot better in 1080p

Borderline really, regardless of 1080p support, Most if not almost all of X360 games are native 720p or lower. Anything above 720p is upscaled from either a lower resolution (game dependant) or 720p if the game natively supports it.

Re: 360 hdmi port?

slighty off topic, but can anyone tell me that , if I hook up a external dvd player via usb to a 360, will it work ? dvd is a samsung, with Upgradable firmware, SE-S204. + will it be able to read the Xbox disks ? If not then i can always get it flashed. it dont really matter what happens to it now. I supose i cud buy a new dvd drive for it but cant be arsed if my external will work

I was wondering this as we have a 360 in the cupboard just over a year old sitting there collecting dust, we have stopped using it due to it completly scratching disks galore, + we now have a new 360 elite.

Any ideas peeps?

Re: 360 hdmi port?

Keyholder, no, the DVD drives have to be specific models with specific firmware, it's an anti-piracy measure. Upgrading the firmware won't help the disk scratching problem either.
