VM 2mb to get free 10 mb upgrade?
hi , i read that 2mb customers will get an upgrade to 10 mb in may with certain restrictions .Is this true ?

Re: VM 2mb to get free 10 mb upgrade?
It certainly is :)
Its not actually a free upgrade, as such, as your price is going up by £2.00 on the 1st May. Still, its quite reasonable for the upgrade if you ask me :tu: |
Re: VM 2mb to get free 10 mb upgrade?
I received an email from VM on Fri 13th.

Re: VM 2mb to get free 10 mb upgrade?
Just to add to my previous post here's the difference in thresholds between the M 10mb package and the L package, before STM kicks in:
M Tier (10Mb) 512kb up Time of Day: Eve DS 4-9pm Eve US 3pm-8pm Day DS 10am-3pm Penalty Duration: 5 hours Threshold Download Speed (Eve): 750MB (Day) : 1500MB Threshold Upload Speed (Eve): 400MB (subject to trials) L Tier (10Mb) 512kb up Time of Day: Eve DS 4-9pm Eve US 3pm-8pm Day DS 10am-3pm Penalty Duration: 5 hours Threshold DS (Eve): 1500MB (Day) : 3000MB Threshold US (Eve): 800MB |
Re: VM 2mb to get free 10 mb upgrade?
That's a very harsh set of restrictions on M 10Mbit.

Re: VM 2mb to get free 10 mb upgrade?
Yup unlimited, its just the STM that hits them when/if they hit the threshold UL/DL speeds.
I imagine some customers will UG to the L tier of 10mb just to raise their thersholds... |

Re: VM 2mb to get free 10 mb upgrade?
Shame my internet "contract" lasts until November/December time. No chance of a rebate either cos I won't be living where the modem's connected.

Re: VM 2mb to get free 10 mb upgrade?
Yup, if your current package allows you to upgrade at that price then go for it! :tu:
bare in mind, though, that if you're already on a bundle deal it could cost as much as an additional £7 to upgrade to the top L tier. For example. If you have 3for30 BBI:medium Telephone:medium tv:large. Then effectively you're paying £9.50 for your TV and £9.50 your Broadband, then £11 for the line rental. So by upgrading the BB to L (for as much as £7 - could be less) you'll still only be paying a maximum of £16.50 for the broadband. A little confusing but i just wanted people to be aware that they won't necessarily be able to ug fom M to L for £2.00. |

And if they do need less STM - then they can upgrade to BB L ;) |

Call customer services as you might be suprised as it might be cheaper than you think.

Re: VM 2mb to get free 10 mb upgrade?
hi thanks for the heads up. I have 2 mb standalone and pay £10 pm, could i ring vm tommorrow and get m 10 mb fo £12 pm? or do i have to wait until may?
|
Re: VM 2mb to get free 10 mb upgrade?
You will have to wait until May
And you won't get the £2 increase until your £10 offer runs out |

By which time ,if I am correct, the price for 10mb bb will be the same as if you continued into a 2nd year of contract with the 2mb bb? In which case, for those wishing to have at least a further 12 months contract with virginmedia, taking up the upgrade bundle offer of tv, phone and 10mb for £14 a month would save money, would it not? |
Re: VM 2mb to get free 10 mb upgrade?
Not really as its £14 + £11 line rental = £25
Wheras BB M once any offers run out will be £20 from 1st May (or £21.25 on paper bills) |
Re: VM 2mb to get free 10 mb upgrade?
Can anyone tell me what the difference (apart from £10) between a 2MB / 4MB -> 10MB upgrade and an existing 10MB connection?
Surely if downgraded to 4MB and was then upgraded I'd be better off per month? I don't think VirginMedia got the marketing right here .... Cheers |
Re: VM 2mb to get free 10 mb upgrade?
I'm on BB M, TV XL, Phone M for £50/month paid by DD with ebilling at the moment. If I upgrade BB to L and agree to a new 12 month contract, will I end up paying £34.50 for first 3 months and £46/month thereafter plus £50 credit on my bill according to build your own bundle section of VM website? That would be a saving of £84.50(3x£11.50+£50) and £4/month and as the website says that the prices are the new ones(ie from 1st May 2009) that would include any suggested £2/month increase.

Re: VM 2mb to get free 10 mb upgrade?
No you won't - as you already have all 3 services you cannot order them as new online which you need to do to qualify for the £50 online order credit
Also as you already have XL tv you would not qualify for the 3 month TV reduction You probably would be able to get the £46 bundle though |

Re: VM 2mb to get free 10 mb upgrade?
Contacted CS, they offered £1.50 extra for move to BB XL, but £7 extra for BB L which seems silly.
Put through to customer relations and was offered(didn't threaten to leave or anything like that, just asked for a bundle deal) £38.75/month(was £50) on an 'indefinite basis' moving from BB M to L. That's better than the deal for new customers. Upgrade to BB L was even done quickly whilst still on phone. Paying £11.25/month less for an improved service. Result.:) |
