What's the worst/strangest illness you've ever had?
 

Here's one for you people. I'll get it started...

Strangest thing i've ever had is Lymphitis (not sure how to spell it).

Basically all the lymph glands in my body swoll up. Including some glands in my groin.

Was banned from using my manparts for months! :shocked:

I got pancreatitis after taking azathioprine just for a couple of days. Ended up in hospital in total agony and wasn't allowed to eat for 3-4 days, thought I was dying.

The scariest has be a bad asthma attack and having to be rushed to hospital as was close to death.

My PKD and Crohn's are just as bad though.

I don't know if you'd call it an illness but I suffer from sleep apnea and I hate it.

I have probably one of the longest named conditions, idiopathic Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA) and I am more likely to meet a dog suffering from it than another human being.

Still at least this means that there is quite a bit of research being done seeing as, if it isn't to do with cancer, people are more likely to donate money for research if an animal is concerned. :)

i suffer from the 4 year old next door waking me up at 4am every day which makes me very grumpy .

Back in the early 80's Appendicitis, as they where taking it out it burst and I then had perentitus which nearly killed me.

I only found out about the later some 20 years later.

I was out of school for 2 months, and everyday I had to have a salty bath as hot as I could take.

My friend had a really long winded named condition (can't remember what it is now but the name was stupidly long) and all he did was twitch constantly! lol.

No. I'd potentially lose a lot of weight. And for those of you who really know me. AKA broadbandking..You know i'm only small anyway so weight loss wouldn't benefit me much! lol :erm:

Forgot to add Livedo Reticularis, it's strange as it's mostly common in young females and they get it in their legs normally, yet I have it in my right arm and I'm 38 male. Now that has to be classed as strange.

My current illness, which is either Chrons disease or Colitis, the biopsy result is due next week. Its very painful - bowel cramps, diarrhea and as a result a very distressing and disrupted lifestyle.

I hope it's colitis out of the two (or IBS hopefully) as that's much more treatable / managable.

Hopefully you'll get some result though from the tests as they are all horrible. Drinking that clear out solution for the colonoscopy has got to be the most evil thing on earth.

Wow puts my illness into perspective really, I just had to suffer with being aroused 24/7, which when you think about it doesn't sound so bad really..

I hope so too, regardless it will be with me for life now. There is no known cause either which isn't very encouraging.

Yes, the pickleaxe (picolax) is nasty stuff, but only because of the cramps. The "going" part isn't so bad, nothing I'm not already used to as a result of the chrons/colitis... However its worse than just colitis/chrons, since I'm losing blood when I "go" as well, making me iron deficit anemic.

Life is bad, but I'll get there!

I have Iritis, that reoccurs whenever it wants to, can be free for a year then might have it 4 times the next year. Very painful indeed, the first time I had it, it got misdiagnosed for about 5 days, and I ended up wanting to pull my eyeball out!
Then I had to have an injection in my eyeball, very scary!
I now self -medicate, and have supplies of the drops at all times, so if I catch it early, I do not suffer too much any more.

Worst thing was a servere case of Shingles though, all around the trunk of my body.
I had to continue to work, as self employed, and at that time could not afford to pay someone else to do my work for me.

I'm sounding just like my Grandma now, moaning about her ailments!!

Mine are/were in the early stages. I had trouble focussing on things and anything further than a yard or two was blurry, and it was worse in my right eye so I had that one out. My vision through that eye is now incredible, it's like going from black and white tv to hi-def.

My left eye still has a cataract but it's pretty much underdeveloped. Chances are i won't need to be having it out until at least a year. I now need reading glasses (apparently I look quite 'distinguished' in them...) but it's worth it for the clear vision.

The diabetic retinopathy that Jefferson T mentioned earlier has caused him to be registered blind - the cataracts are an extra handicap to what little vision he has left ...

The worst thing I've had was acute nephritis as a kid, when I spent a week in hospital.

Worst: Encephalitis. Often fatal, those it doesn't kill are often left with permanent brain damage (my finger is hovering over the ban button so don't even think about it :p: )
Weirdest: A pilonidal sinus. Basically, an inflamed hair follicle in your butt crack that can get infected. To get rid of it you have to have an operation which involves having part of your crack sliced open and then sewn back together. Then you can't sit down for a week. :disturbd:

Heh heh, now we're talking!

For about an hour before the op, they put eye drops in every 5 minutes or so as an anaesthetic. Then you get taken in to the operating theatre, lay down on the table and they use this paper with a really strong sticky substance on it and place it over each eyelid to keep them open. More eye drops then they make a small cut in the iris, send in a needle to pull the lens out, then they replace is with an artificial one which will be folded up but it puts itself right once it's in place.

They remove the sticky paper and all done.

And yes, awake all the way through :D

Well I've had the Chalfonts in the past so I can imagine it isn't pleasant...however my money is on the eye op being the nastier of the two but only just... :erm:

I think my Cancer at age 26 pales into insignificance after reading about all of you guys and girls on here with ongoing, long term illness.

Eh? the entire length of your ass, that's how long it is. I said crack, not hole. As it happens, mine was near the top of the crack, near the small of my back, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been ... until the wound got infected. :sick:

My better half has done the eye op under local anaesthetic thing but the worst i`ve ever had is my Carpals Tunnel Syndrome.
My "w.....s cramp" as she fondly calls it........... :no:
Had the odd finger hanging off but that`s baby stuff compared to the pain i had during my first few months with the CTS.
I used to wake up screaming like a stuck pig every morning at about 3am.
The very first night had the wife and kids all awake & screaming like banshees too wondering wtf was wrong with me.
Quite funny in hindsight.

Unlike the big bloody javelin full of steroids i used to have injected into my wrists then scraped & scratched around until the "tunnels" were located.
After her eye op though it seems like much ado about nothing.:o:
I was an odd case apparently,being so young and suffering in both wrists at the very same time.

Banned is such an emotive word - "actively discouraged" is probably more appropriate.

My ex had it in both hands in his early twenties, I didn't get a full night's kip for years!

Anyhow, his op was done while he was awake, and they screened off his arms obviously so he couldn't see. But the one sitting over him to reassure him had glasses on which reflected the full procedure on both hands to the ex who was mildly sedated and couldn't speak :rolleyes:

I never went as far as the operation although if it ever comes back as bad as it first was i`ll be right down the hospital.
I still get numb hands & wrists and the odd pains when i`ve been driving for a while or using power tools & suchlike.Extended computer use aint so good either although i have been known to excuse myself from cutting the grass only to come on the computer..... :)

None of that though is nearly as bad as holding my 3Yr old girls hand as she went under for her op........only to have some teeth removed but god that was awful.

Obviously Cancer for me. But the worst bit was getting septacemia amongst other things and being bedbound for some weeks. I had tohave a catheter fitted....:shocked::td:

Just imagine going to macdonalds and getting one of the straws they have there and forcing it down your manhood. It hurt like ****
