That's what you get from the nasty party then. Oh wait, its the Lib Dems being racist towards the Tories...

I thought the term was similar to someone calling you a plum and was just a term to say your silly/stupid. Shows how much I know then.

It does if you're white I suppose. I've called white kids (silly) monkeys before, but wouldn't use the term to a black kid.

Bit i found funny about this is the woman concerned said "i cannot be racist i am black" that really does show how ridiculous the whole racism thing has become.

I haven't seen that but it doesn't suprise me. It shows how black culture has taken the concept of racism and twisted it into a victimisation complex.

I for one am sick of having to watch what I say or type in this ridiclous over sensitive politically correct world we live in today!

That comment "I cannot be racist I'm black" had me rolling on the floor(ok I exagerate!)

Re: Is 'coconut' not as serious?

What i think that attitude of hers shows is that it is genuinely believed among some in the ethnic minorities that racism is a oneway street ie white to everyone else and that being non white somehow means you cannot be racist. It's one of the big reasons why racism is on the rise and is going to be harder to beat because people feel damned if they do and damned if they don't.

I am all of those, and I feel at no disadvantage.

Does anyone have a link to her apparently saying the "I can't be racist" comment?

it's good that you don't feel you have to be careful what phrases you use and around whom. as I say, I wish you luck for the time when someone takes a seemingly random issue with something you say because they have taken it way out of context, but won't let it lie. it happens.

After looking for the link for you Russ it has been taken down and a link to the original article that the site reported and that source is the sun newspaper :(. So it seems she might not have said it after all though the sun is claiming to have quoted her directly so not sure about the legalities of them doing that if she hasn't said it. That said it's the sun.

I think the appropriate expression is "what's good enough for the goose is good for the gander"...

This is all so ****ing stupid!
Why does`nt eveyrone just grow up, if she`d called him a ****ing ****, nobody would have complained. Why do so many people have to look into offhand comments to see something racial in them?

Re: Is 'coconut' not as serious?

The term coconut is a jibe at someone for betraying their roots to pander to “white” opinion.

i thought it was the seed of a palm - never heard of it being an insult

It means dark outside, white inside. Its as bad as calling a black person an "Uncle Tom"

I don't see why everytone is criticising this. The woman was deliberately racist. Why shouldn't she be punished? I certainly would if I called a black person a monkey or Uncle Tom (or coconut, I can assure you)

Every race has the capability to be racist.

Absolutely pathetic!! And you'd think that the police would have more pressing things to deal with, what a joke!!

RizzyKing 09-03-2009 04:01

Re: Is 'coconut' not as serious?

Well if a white person had said it and someone complained the police would be involved so no different. Yeah I know every race has it's idiots Stuart but some in certain groups do seem to truly feel racism is something they can only be victims of.
