Does 7 zip recompile rar archives?
|
Re: winrar
not sure what you mean sorry thanks
|
Re: winrar
If you mean add files to an existing archive i have just tryied and i get "No such interface supported" so i think not.

So, no. Although it can make RARs from scratch, and extract them. |

No I mean you have a split rar archive either in .rar .00 format or file.001 format will 7 zip recompile the splits to create its whole |
Re: winrar
Dunno about that, but it supports extracting multipart.
If you wanted to make a whole new archive, I think you'd have to extract then compress manually. |
Re: winrar
I use winrar and always will I was just seeing if 7zip is as versatile

Re: winrar

Re: winrar
www.rarlabs.com or www.rarsoft.com gives you RAR...I personally have both on my PC mainly as some 7zip's will not be decoded by WINRAR
|
Re: winrar
7zip can recompile split archives but it's not as versative with RAR's as winRAR is.
For example, in winrar you can extract broken files. Nothing like that in 7zip. I generally use 7zip as my standard file manager and when things require some more oomph, I did out my winrar and let it handle the archives. |

Thanks which one do i need cheers take care

To view a list of files you've backed up 1. Open Backup and Restore Center by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Backup and Restore Center. 2. Click Restore files. You can browse or search the contents of the backup. |

Re: winrar
In general, only RAR will compress RAR, decompression is available on a free licence, compression is not.
7-Zip is my compression program of choice. Don't ask me to use RAR, I will not perpetuate a proprietary format - if you want me to compress a file, you can have it in zip, 7Z, or any other format with open/free compression. I don't do RAR, I don't do ACE. |
