HP Colour laser printer
 

Hi guys - I've been looking for a new laser printer and can get this one:

for £99.

Is it any good? I imagine the cartridges supplied are limited life versions and that a full set of HP originals will cost more than the price of the printer but is it possible to refill these or get compatibles? Any other thoughts on this printer anyone?

I would go for genuine carts, not refills.

Yes they would be more expensive but ar better and less messy.

Its a laser printer, it uses toner, not ink cartridges. I've never heard of end users being able to refill a toner cartridge.

You can get compatible toners, but we've had a lot of trouble at work with compatibles causing paper jams, early drum repleacements etc.

HP printers are good kit and this one is not a bad price - question is does it actually come with toner cartridge(es) included? If it does then it's a pretty good deal.

Toner cartridges are never a cheap consumable (for any laser printer) at the best of times, but they do have one thing going for them - they last a darn sight longer than ink jets, the quality is usually better and the print doesn't run if it gets damp.

Things I would seriously consider though, toner cartridge availability, source and price. Ask the manager at the ALDI store as to whether the printer will be supported for consumables. Otherwise, well worth considering. - especially with a three year warranty.

What's the betting, that when you get to the store there won't be any available, because the local poxy lowlife traders will have snaffled them up first to sell on - yes unfortunately it does happen - especially at the Blackpool store. :mad:

Better get the bivvy out and a decent sleeping bag! :D

You can fill toner carts, but I wouldn't it horrible stuff and can get everywhere.

I knew people who got stuff them and washed their hands in warm water, bearing in mind that toner is heat activated, some stck to them.

It says £149.99 not £99.

If its anything to go on the CP1515n isnt too bad, not the best but ok, paper tray is very poor.

It's also carcinogenic. At the last place I worked at it was decided after a risk assesment that only three people that worked there could change the toners, and to do that they had to wear gloves.

You have to use the original cartridges for reliability and accurate color output, but they are horribly expensive. We have a very decent HP color laser at work, one of these infact

The cartridges cost an arm and a leg...and you need 4 of them :(

JonT - I know it's a laser printer and you can refill laser toner cartridges as I've done it myself with a Samsung laser printer I have. I was wondering about the cartridges possibly being chipped or being designed to make filling difficult/impossible.

Matthew - that's just an old link from last year to show the model/spec - As I said, I can get that printer for £99.00

BW41101 - They are in stock locally @ £99 and come with a full set of 4 limited life cartridges as appears to be the norm sadly these days. Hence my questions about refilling or compatibles. Presumably I can get HP originals for this machine virtually anywhere so I don't need to worry about Aldi supplying them at any time. Of course HP and other manufacturers use the huge margin on toner cartridges to subsidise the retail cost of their printers so I was just wondering if there might be alternative options for running this machine more cheaply.

Just found this kit (which seems to come with new chips) so it looks like refilling is possible if possibly dirty and hazardous.... :confused:

I fill my toner catridges quite regulary for my little Smasung ML1210... In fact apart from the two free toners I received with the printer some 5 years ago I've never bought another cartridge..The toners available on eBay...

Problem with the newer printers is that they're going the way of inkjets in that the newer cartridge has a built in pic that logs the toner used and will need to be reset..I presume that there's resetters out there for them..

Also when doing toner is remember it is a very fine powdered plastic/carbon material. Do not use a vacumn cleaner to clean up old toner as it'll go right through even a pollen filter..Clean out the old catridge very carefully using a soft brosh onto a large sheet of plastic (I use an opened up black bag) and then gently fill the cartidge back up again..

You will get toner on your hands but just wash this off with COLD water as hot water although it won't melt the toner like some believe it will though open up pores which the toner will go into...

Thanks for the tips - presumably surgical gloves would be a good idea. The refill kit on Amazon seems to include new chips which are presumably already reset. I've been looking for some refilling info/tip for these specific cartridges but can't seem to find any.

Don't forget, these same risk assessment people are the ones that decided kids playing conkers should wear safety goggles..

Try common sense precautions. They seem to have worked fairly well for the human race for a few centuries before the current madness evolved.
