Slow Remote Reactions
I have not really paid much attentuion to it before but have now noticed something that is really irritating me. When i press any buton on my v+ remote sometimes it takes ages to pop up on screen or dosent even happen. Then sometimes it keeps displaying i have pressed 6 when i have 1,2,3,4, or 5? I used my neighbours normal virgin remote and ther setup is instant. Is this normal for v+ or jus something thats an issue with my remote/box? Thanx.

Re: Slow Remote Reactions
It's normal (at times).
Someone will be along any second to say that it's an IR signal from your tv causing it and if only you can shield it your v+ will be transmogrified into a lighting quick piece of equipment. |
Re: Slow Remote Reactions
IR signal? am not very technical unfrtunately lol, is it something i can rectify?
|
Re: Slow Remote Reactions
I was joking. Many electrical devises give off infra red. The theory is when your tv is warming up it gives off more IR and these false signals confuse the v+. There's also the even more ridiculous ones about energy saving bulbs jamming your v+. Unfortunately on that one some people have the same behaviour happen in the daytime or when the bulbs have been switched off for hours.
I am sceptical about this having been with virgin for years. The software on digital tv has always been sluggish. It was sluggish and unstable on Pace boxes, it was quicker on the replacement ones. It's just that the v+ doesn't get on especially well with the current software. So in my opinion it's entirely normal. Like I said others will disagree and think that it's any other explanation. |
Re: Slow Remote Reactions
thanks very much for your help, neighbours update to v+ tomorrow so can laugh at them losing their high speed reaction remote lol

Re: Slow Remote Reactions
I had V+ installed on saturday, the remote responds immediately. It obviously doesn't effect every box. FWIW I have two energy saving bulbs in the room!

Re: Slow Remote Reactions
just spoke to them and they said it can take up to 5-6 seconds to respond from a single action, because it has a recording tuner in the box? i said i had used another box which was much quicker and the woman on the other end of the phone said "no, it wasnt" lol. really helpful :dozey:

Re: Slow Remote Reactions
She's talking poop. Like I said, mine is instant. The only delay is the buffer between channel changes, 1 second max.
|
Re: Slow Remote Reactions
Give it time. Fill up the hard drive and use it for a while and it'll soon slow down.

Try calling again, and this time don't mention the speed. Mention that when you press one button, the box does something else. ---------- Post added at 20:10 ---------- Previous post was at 19:53 ---------- Quote:

Re: Slow Remote Reactions
Changing the batteries in the remote helped to cure the slow reaction AND the annoying habit of goint to a totally different chanel to the one keyed in, but the remote seems to have an enourmous apetite for batteries! I find myself having to change them every couple of weeks.
I'm on my 2nd remote, the first one packed in after I threw it against the wall in frustration last year!!!!! |
Re: Slow Remote Reactions
My V+ box has always been slow, but since being forced to re-boot at the weekend it now takes around 8 seconds just to scroll up one channel in my favourites list. And some menus take so long - I've forgotten why I went there by the time it comes up! We are talking 20 - 30 seconds. Is this a general problem (maybe a software upgrade at the weekend) or are Virgin singling me out for special treatment?

Re: Slow Remote Reactions
Sounds like your box has a fault. Give Virgin a call.

Re: Slow Remote Reactions
You might want to read a previous post of mine! - I was getting very angry also - but the box I have now (my 3rd one) seems ok
Here is the previous thread http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/10...trol-woes.html |
Re: Slow Remote Reactions
My TV has this effect on my box - proven as it goes away when I turn it off (my TV) without fail.
|
Re: Slow Remote Reactions
mine too has this prob of being slow
but thru the day its fine perfect even but as soon as 11pm comes everything slows down the remote takes ages to turn over somtimes upto a min once i was watching itv1 ads came on so i went to turn it over to bbc1 to watch j ross then turn back once ads had finished but nothing happen for nearly 4 mins then when it turn over i went thru all the buttons i pressed to figure out wot had happened. every night is the same it slows down. |
Re: Slow Remote Reactions
My slow response started a week ago after I reset the box to cure a 'smart card invalid' error message. Tried lots more re-boots amd even unplugging for an hour with no effect. Then yesterday back came the 'smart card invalid' message. I reset the box - and my remote has now gone back to it's normal response rate. ie not exactly blisteringly fast, but bearable. I think there must have been a dodgy update.
|
Re: Slow Remote Reactions
There hasn't been an update, dodgy or otherwise. I'm sure your box is faulty. The smart card error message helps confirm this.
Leave it for now as it seems to have settled down, but ring the Faults team at VM if it plays up again. |
