 there's a cat that often comes trotting into the papershop (and other local shops), it's so cute - everyone just puts up with it, even customers that don't like cats!

Agreed. Our cat knows when the kitchen door is not closed properly and pulls it open from the bottom when he feels like it. Also when we open the window and put it on the latch he puts his paw through and try's to pull the latch up to let himself in.

They are very intelligent and can provide incredibly funny moments at times :)

Re: For joglynne and other cat lovers.

I agree icestar, they can be incredibly intelligent when it suits them.

Our cat, Pu, has become incredibly vocal since his brother died. He natters to everyone who comes into our home and will wait for gaps in the conversation to have his say. The really funny thing is that when he wants to speak to my husband, who is very deaf, Pu tries to get face to face with John and chutters much louder than when he is speaking to me.

That is incredible joglynne. I must admit I didnt realise that they could be as intelligent as your point about your husband proves. You must have a very loving and affectionate cat.

Our cat seems to be very moody (Almost seems angry sometimes). Its is very hard to please him at times. Most of the time he does not seem to like attention which I found strange. He is only around 2 years old so I am not sure if this is normal or not.

Well I say that but as soon as there is food around he is very affectionate lol :)

http://fc18.deviantart.com/fs18/f/20...onorschild.gif Food, don't get me started on feeding the picky little darling.

When his brother was alive it was he who was the vocal one of the pair, Pu being the silent partner in their escapades.

They were very self contained house cats having re-homed at least twice, and been at the Cats Protection cattery for over 2 years before we adopted them at age 10. It took a long time for them to mellow and accept they had a proper home with us. :)

Re: For joglynne and other cat lovers.

We got felix (Yes I know Felix lol) when he was around 8 weeks I think. He was kept indoors for the first year (We were always scared that if he went out we would never see him again). He now comes and goes as he please's.

Thinking about it more it could be to do with the fact we have a dog that could be making Felix feel unappreciated ?? Although they do get along very well and respect each other's space. I think he even thought the dog was his mother at one point when he was younger.

Its more of a learn as you go experience here this being our first cat. He likes to sleep ALOT ! but I just find this is normal. I read the odd book and sometimes when he does something strange I will look it up on the net but I think at the end of the day that all cats are diffrent. They really do have their own personality and our is just grumpy lol.

Still wouldnt swap him for anything and he is loving when he wants to be. I think he is just trying to show he is boss at times lol. Strange how you become attactched to your pets so fast isn't it :)

Look at me going on lol I will try to keep my post's shorter now :)

aw, look at all the cute pusscats! :D

shame our 2 have been a nightmare today especially, they just don't get on. :(

they've both been neutered, got feliway... they have to be in seperate rooms. Leave a door ajar for a split second and one will be at the other. Huge tufts of fur today, and then our main cat (as opposed to the recent adoptee) decided that I should feel his pain and attacked me too. I was then too afraid to be near my own cat and stood alone in the kitchen. :bigcry: haven't seen any blood between any cats or me (well not today anyway) thank goodness. Wonder if any charities will take either of them right now - it's high season for 'donations' isn't it...

I would like to point out, in my defense, that I have owned three cats (one of whom, Lucy, lived for 12 years), and loved them all dearly.

We now have a dog, Benji, and should he (heaven forbid) pass away, we will probably revisit the world of pussycat.

I was just trying to balance the insulin levels in this thread, that's all.....:D

I too had cats,Scrap and Scratch.

One lived until she was 8 and then her kidneys failed. The other lived for 17 years until she got a cancerous growth in her sinus cavity. As she had severe arthritis(she couldn't get up onto chairs let alone climb fences etc) and kidney problems we decided that we would not put her through any further indignities.

Still miss them both. They had very different characters, didn't get on well but they were good company.

My son is still hankering for another cat but I'm reluctant to until I retire when I plan having a cat and a dog.Pets need company particularly dogs.

I haven't had the opportunity to try it since I heard about it, but supposedly if you gently stroke/tickle the pads of both front paws at the same time, it's meant to cause them to fall asleep from pleasure overload.

If it works, you'll be able to take as many pics as you want until your vict... I mean cat wakes up. :disturbd:

before giving this kind of advice, have you tried it yourself and seen the state of hands afterwards, I remember my cats when I tried that kind of trick and my hands didnt look that nice...bit of a ripped effect.

Lol agreed. My cat does not like his paws touched at all. Also have a friend who has a bigger cat and can cause some damage when he plays.

Not exactly, but when I was too young to know better [about 5 or 6] I went downstairs before my parents were up, & seeing 1 of our cats washing herself decided I would help. Poor Smokey was very patient with me, & I don't recall her objecting to me giving her a Fairy Liquid shampoo. When my mother saw what I'd done [only a few minutes after the fact] & rushed her into the shower to wash it off, Smokey wasn't quite as understanding with her.

Before anyone accuses me of being cruel, I would like to point out that I had no idea that it could be bad for the cat, & was genuinely just trying to help. :o:

As I said, I haven't had the opportunity to try it, as I have been feline-deprived for considerably longer than it's been since I heard about it.

As for potential injuries - I apologise, but I assumed it was obvious that it shouldn't be attempted with a cat that tends to play rough [unless your reflexes are equal to or better than the cat's :D].

If I ever get the chance to try it, I'd probably start off with trying to just hold the front paws in my hands to see if they'd tolerate it, & to get them used to it, but only holding them very lightly so that they'd know they could take their paws away whenever they felt like it.

If/when they appeared comfortable with that I'd then very lightly rub my thumbs around in circles on their paw pads, & continue until they either fell asleep or they decided they'd had enough & removed their paws. Naturally, in the latter case I would let go & move my hands out of paw range as quickly as possible, just in case. :)

Don't worry, no damage, and I'm used to it by now anyway! She's very playful :) Maybe I'll try again when she's in a more sleepy mood.

I love my cat Barcus, but he is the most unpredictable psycho-cat we have ever had,:) his sixteen now but he still takes great delight in hiding under the kitchen table then bolting out at warp speed to latch on to your feet at night, claws are optional but generally deployed.
Even to this day my daughter and niece's still check under the table for him when they come around, then if he is there its, "dad/unca barcus is under the table, can you move him" this of course he then thinks is a game.:)
Even though old barcus can be a pain in the bottom, froggy loves him.

That's the sort of thing our dog Benji does (only not as athletically, being 12 years old).

He jumps sideways, puts his muzzle in the snow and flick the snow into the air, and does flying leaps so he skids in the snow.

Gets a bit annoyed when we insist on towelling him down before he can come into the house, though.

Well, our cat has decided he doesn't like snow and ice (this year, I might add, he's been fine with it before). As such, he's stayed in the house and is obviously bored because he keeps hiding, then leaping out and attacking the dogs...

I must admit that it all looks a bit OTT but in a way I wouldn't mind if it caught on.

In the USA it is still thought to be OK to declaw cats and if this training to help curb a cats more destructive antics can help stop that barbaric practice then, silly as it looks, I'm all for it.

I haven't shown any links but a quick Google of declawing cats + USA may just sicken you.

Sorry to go all heavy but one of rescue our cats had been illegally declawed and the poor thing really suffered physically as a result.

I still don't like anyone trying to make cats anything but what they are...declawing is a disgusting habit and why have a cat if you can't accept it is what it is.If you want a dog to train buy one is my suggestion to these people...

Similar to my above post, my Cat has another little game he likes. All our pets sleep in the same room, and when I get up, I let them out and get breakfast for them. The cat runs straight down the stairs, hides near the bannisters then smacks our yorkie (with his claws retracted) round the head. The Yorkie is apparently surprised by this every time.

The cat occasionally tries it on our Westie as well, but she normally attacks him if he does, which has resulted in me having to break up a few fights.

Agreed. I personally consider my pets to be as much part of the family as any human (and the pets apparently consider me to be part of their pack). I wouldn't cage any pet, partly because, as I stated earlier, I consider them to be part of the family (and I wouldn't cage any of the human members) and partly because, in the case of dogs anyway, they will only consider where they live (the cage) to be their territory.

Agreed Maggy. I dont understand people who take on pets that cant handle them. If your willing to take an animal into your home you should be aware of that animals habits/traits and be happy to live with them.

The only trick my cat will do is the psychic prediction of which chair you want to sit on and teleporting there just before you get there... oh and she'll come to the call of a packet of cat food.

She's an indoor only cat though and has been for many many years. It's not cruel, at the time I rehomed her we lived on a very busy road and I called Cats Protection after an older indoor cat and mentioned I was a sucker for a hard luck story - got put in touch with the fosterer for a feline tripod who they wanted to be indoor only as she wouldn't stand a chance if a dog attacked her (she's missing a back leg so finds the initial jump up to climb things difficult from a lack of spring) - who promptly decided I belonged to her and has been hogging the bed for the last 6 years.

The cat over the road wants to be in on a morning before its owners get out of bed. It jumps up onto the bay window and miaows, then you see a semi-dressed arm shoot out of bed and the curtains, open the window, let the cat in and close the window. It's quite funny as the cat can climb the pebble dash wall to get up there a la spiderman.

you should film it and send it to you've been framed! or at least put it on youtube. ;)

I feel your pain with the bed, our main cat is the same - if you're settling down, he'll suddenly realise - it must be warm under there! and nuzzle / headbutt his way inbetween me, hubby, & the duvet!
